Depp Exits Fantastic Beasts 3

Depp in Crimes of Grindelwald

It was announced today that Warner Bros. Studios has asked Johnny Depp to leave the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film franchise. Details were not given as to why but many speculate that his personal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard were behind the decision.

Depp joined the franchise in 2016 as the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald to the surprise of many fans. Depp would reprised that role in 2018‘s Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The third film, presumably, would feature the showdown between Grindelwald and Jude Law’s Albus Dumbledore as detailed in the Harry Potter book series. No details have been given as to which direction Warner Bros. will take moving forward but Depp did issue a statement on his Instagram page:

JK Rowling bring us back to the magical world that the world has grown to love with the first side entry into the world of Harry Potter. Set in, what appears to be the 1920’s, the movie follows the adventures of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he pursue magical creatures that have been set loose in New York. Fantastic Beasts brings an all star cast that features Ezra Miller, John Voight, Colin Farrell, and legendary make-up actor Ron Perlman. As in previous Potter films, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will hit theaters in November 2016. For now, take a peek at the teaser trailer.
