In the current news cycle, some good news is welcome treat and some great nerd news is a dish to savor. As we wait for the next season of the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian”, some casting information has been released and it’s possibly a fantasy casting dream come true. Rosario Dawson will be joining the cast for the new season slated for release this fall (..hopefully)
Dawson has made a career on a path she has controlled and has chosen projects that weren’t about the check, but about the creation of something special. Now, as she enters this galaxy, Rosario is rumored to be playing the role of Ahsoka Tano and this rumor has sparked a lot of excitement in the Star Wars universe.

ahsoka

The character of Ahsoka debut in the feature film version of “The Clone Wars” and was voiced by Ashley Eckstein. This character continued her evolution through the REBELS animated series and developed a fan following that continued to grow, after the original series came to an end.
This news is still developing and the production of “The Mandalorian” seems to not have been stalled by the current state of the world. As new information is released and rumors become fact, we will continue to watch this story.

ENDGAME Doesn’t Mean Game Over..

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

As 2019 comes to a close and the mourning continues for the ones we lost in Avengers: ENDGAME, one question continued to linger and one of those answers came in the form of the first trailer for MARVEL Studios: Black Widow.

The announcement of Natasha Romanoff’s solo movie excited the MARVEL universe, then ENDGAME left the movie watching public wondering about this movie and which direction we would see this character take. Luckily, the studio didn’t travel the same road as 2005’s Elektra and we are traveling back to the world post Captain America: Civil War.
The trailer drives us quickly into Natasha’s return to the world that built her and her attempts to disappear from the radar, but a life of a Red Room spy isn’t that easy and we see her reconnect with some “family”, one of them being a nostalgic Red Gaurdian (played by “Stranger Things” David Harbour).

Black Widow clearly shows the spy thriller vibe that The Winter Soldier gave us in the early phases of the Infinity Saga, but in a completely different world and it’s the world of a character that deserved a solo adventure.

No Time To Die,But Time To Say Goodbye..

007

(Douglas Porter-Staff Writer)

Bond, James Bond is back. This time he is no longer 007 and has retired from Mi6 to live out his days with his true love Madeline played by Lea Seydoux. In an art imitating life situation Bond is thrust back into the dangers of Mi6, just like star Daniel Craig had been thrust back into the Bond universe. During the press junket for James Bond 24 know more specifically as Spectre, Craig had said that it was his final Bond. But, with the fans maintaining the stance of 1 more film with Craig, and a script that enticed Craig to return to the role, Columbia announced James Bond 25: No Time to Die with Craig returning for shaken Martinis one more time. Now don’t get the notion that he is now back for more; during an interview this week Craig has confirmed that this is definitively his final Bond.

After a small sizzle reel was released online, fans speculated a trailer would be released in November as it seems 6 months before release seems to be the standard timeline for a trailer. Columbia pushed the release of the first trailer to December 4, 2019.

Premiering in the morning tandemly with 5 character posters the trailer came in at 2 minutes 38 seconds. The trailer did not bury the lead, with the opening showing Bond being chased, fired at by henchman on motorcycles and finding out he had been betrayed by Madeline. Now in the world of deception and misdirection this could be a different scene just taken out of context, but with what the trailer furthered showed us, it is very obvious Bond will have to fight one more time in order to survive. This time he will not be 007, as that title has been given to a new Mi6 agent: Nomi, a no nonsense, paid her dues, Mi6 agent.

The most anticipated character to arrive with this movie is the new villain: Safin. Safin is being played by Academy award winner, and a much loved actor of our show, Rami Malek. With Rami’s sky rocket to fame after Bohemian Rhapsody, and his titular role as Elliot Alderson on Mr. Robot coming to an end fans were wondering what he would be doing next. Taking on the role of the facially scarred Safin, put Rami in a position to be one of the top Bond villains, behind Christoph Waltz and his portrayal of Bloefield, whom coincidently also makes a return in this film.

Also returning to the movie are: Ralph Fiennes as M, Naomi Harris as Moneypenny, and Ben Whishaw as Q, a character who Bond expresses his emotions for by claiming he missed Q. I don’t want to give much of the trailer away, as I feel it needs to be seen rather that read about, but there the Bond staples in this trailer, and a lovely homage to the infamous Bond opening credits. The only remaining staple to be announced by Columbia is what famous singer or band will take on the opening credits song whos past songs have been performed by the late Chris Cornell, Jack White and Alicia Keys, Adelle, and Sam Smith.

GB 2020 spoiler – 4 words blew up the Ethereal Plane: “We’ve shot our parts.”

(Douglas Porter-Staff Writer)

On Nov, 8th Dan Aykroyd was a guest on The Greg Hill radio show, with one statement he made going viral in the Ghostbusters fan community, Aykroyd confirmed that he and the other original cast members have not only been cast in the movie but were able to shoot their parts during principal production this spring. “We’ve shot our parts. Myself, Murray (Bill), Sigourney (Weaver), and Annie Potts, and it was really exciting working on this new idea, a new take on the story…” Aykroyd said.

Since the teaser trailer was surprised revealed earlier this year, casting rumors have been trickling in over the last few months. Some vague confirmations have bled through, but never an official announcement from Sony. Ernie Huson revealed in a Cameo video that he was shooting his part. Through other interviews both Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver  mentioned that they were also part of the film. Claims of Bill being seen on the set of Calgary also spread, but nothing more was ever seen other than a pic of the 3 remaining Ghostbusters having dinner together.

So while this is still not an official statement from Sony, this is the closest we have gotten to an actual real notion the our beloved OG cast is back and will be in GB 2020.

Final Farewell to Fred Andrews

(Doug Porter – Staff Writer)

Riverdale Season 4 premiered on the CW on 10/9/2019 and was the standalone episode that was used to honor Luke Perry’s role as Archie’s father Fred Andrews. Luke Perry passed away on in March of a stroke. His death cause ripples in the Hollywood community with many people coming out and saying lovely things about Luke’s influence on their lives. As Luke was a multi-season cast member of Riverdale, people were wondering how the Riverdale writers would handle Luke’s abesence in future episodes.

luke-perry-riverdale-fred-andrews

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed in the final episodes of Season 3 that they would be postponing any mention of Fred’s disappearance as 1. he had already completed his scenes for season 3 and 2. they did not want to rush a monumental storyline to try and shoehorn it into the final episodes of the season. Instead they took the seasonal hiatus to really map out a great first episode to address Fred’s departure from the show. It was announced that while there were some open ended items from season 3 that would be addressed this season, episode 1 title “In Memoriam” would be a stand alone episode with little to no mention of season 3. This epsiode was meant to give Luke Perry his much deserved departure, honoring Luke.

Refraining from using potential spoilers, the death of Fred Andrews in the storyline was handled ver gracefully, and envokes alot of emotions as Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, and Kevin handle the loss of a man they always viewed as a father in their lives. The emotional character arcs were also given for Archie’s mother, and FP Jones who was Fred’s lifelong friend. The town also honored Fred, with a very poignant showing of appreciation who at one point in the show was poised to become the Mayor of Riverdale.

The acting in this episode was far and above the normal acting you receive from this cast. It was very obvious that the production of this episode was made with time, compassion for the cast and crew, and very much thought out. While the actors did a phenomenal job showing their characters dealing with the emotion in a character centric way, it was very obvious in their eyes and the breaks in their voice at certain times that this episode was a monumentally emotional challenge to get through. Close friend of Luke, Shannon Doherty also made an apperance as a stranger who has a very pivotal role in this episode.

riverdale-season-4-cast-mourning-slice

There were many stories that came out about the kindness and gentle nature of Luke Perry. One story in particular has always resonated with me. KJ Apa and Luke Perry had become very close on set, a very father/son relationship. KJ being very young, away from home, and always busy as he is the main character of the show, Luke took it upon himself to help KJ feel like he had someone in his life to look out for him. KJ became very much a part of Luke’s family, and Luke would personally stay in contact with KJ’s family in Australia to keep them updated on their son. KJ has been very quiet about Luke’s death, issuing very few statements about the loss of his dear friend. Hollywood has taken that in stride, and has never pushed KJ to speak about a life altering situation in any interviews.

I will leave you all with this piece of advice: take the time to keep in touch with your loved ones. There will always be hectic chaos in your life. But those loved ones may not always be there in the end. It is important to express your love and appreciation for those around you, as there could come a day when they are taken from you. Something as simple as text message could do wonders with your loved ones.

A Fantabulous Trailer For Birds Of Prey..

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

Now that Mister J is away, Harley is ready to play and there will be some heavy collateral damage. As theaters prepare for the Joker’s solo screen outing, the clown prince’s better half has a new trailer of her own and she has brought some new friends along for the ride.

The ladies of Gotham have united and DC continues to think outside of the box. Margot Robbie is back as Harley Quinn, she is swinging a mallet and looking to move on from the dysfunctional fractured relationship that the world witnessed in 2016 “Suicide Squad”. As you can tell from the trailer, she is ready to make friends and the comic book masses can look forward to some of Gotham’s most dangerous women, such as Huntress and Black Canary. Also, “Birds Of Prey” has brought to life the villain known as Black Mask and Ewan McGregor will step into those tailored evil shoes.

When the world is in Crisis, just bring everyone back, and we mean EVERYONE!

From April 1985 to March 1986 the DC Comics world was turned upside with the legendary comic-crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths”. In an effort to bring the DC Multiverse into one cohesive singular universe, Marv Wolfman conceptualized a first of its kind crossover that changed the very DNA of DC Comics until 2011 with the launch of “The New 52”. Wolfman’s goal was to make the DC universe more appealing to the mass consumer and set out to cut down the complicated mutiverse theory and remove alot of unneeded characters and worlds DC had created over its 47 year run. The pinnacle of this crossover was seeing multiple versions of some the famous DC characters interacting for the first and last time.

With the DCEU dominating the ratings for CW, the creative heads have decided to bring the popularity of DC’s biggest comic book event into their TV universe. CW announced in May that they had begun work on what is to be the biggest TV event of the year, if not the decade, with all 5 of their shows taking part in this momentous event. Airing in the final weeks of 2019 into the opening weeks of 2020 , each show will be a single part of the 5 part storyline:

– Supergirl – Sunday, December 8th (8/7c)
– Batwoman – Monday, December 9th (8/7c)
– The Flash – Tuesday, December 10th (8/7c)
– Arrow – Tuesday, January 14, 2020 (8/7c)
– Legends of Tomorrow – Tuesday, January 14, 2020 (9/8c)

Casting announcements have been steadily coming in since August with some very notable actors in the DCEU coming back to either reprise their “original” role, or taking on a new role in their characters hierarchy. Notables names returning are: Brandon Routh who will be playing a duel role of Kingdom Come: Superman and his Legend’s character The Atom.

Voice over legend Kevin Conroy will be playing his first live action iteration of Bruce Wayne, along with ’66 Batman alum Burt Ward in an unknown role. Erica Durance will be reprising her role as Smallville’s Lois Lane, and other notable Smallville alum Tom Welling will be reprising his role of Clark Kent. Is this the time we could finally see Tom Welling break the Smallville rule of: “NO TIGHTS! NO FLIGHTS!”?

All other main cast members within their respective shows will also be appearing, leading to what Arrow producer Marc Guggenheim has referred to as: “The Holy Grail of DC comic book stories, in my opinion,” also adding “We cannot screw this up.”

One More Shift For The Clerks..

cerksIII

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

Jay and Silent Bob are about to get rebooted, but Dante and Randal will soon be clocking in one last time. As “Jay And Silent Bob ReBoot” gets closer to its cinematic release, the man behind the dynamic duo unleashed some news about the on screen team that started it all…

View this post on Instagram

3 CLERKS! Thanks to the good folks at @zscentertainment and @leeloomultiprops, I got to see Randal! #JeffAnderson, @jaymewes, and I spent Saturday signing stuff and catching up, seeing so much movie merch that’s been made over the last 25 years (hit the Leloo site for sweet signed skateboards)! But even better than that? We talked about making a movie together. It’ll be a movie that concludes a saga. It’ll be a movie about how you’re never too old to completely change your life. It’ll be a movie about how a decades-spanning friendship finally confronts the future. It’ll be a movie that brings us back to the beginning – a return to the cradle of civilization in the great state of #newjersey. It’ll be a movie that stars Jeff and @briancohalloran, with me and Jay in supporting roles. And it’ll be a movie called CLERKS III! To be great is to go on. To go on is to go far. To go far is to return. And we’re all gonna return to the scene of the crime! This won’t be the old script we almost made a few years back: this is a completely new screenplay that I just started writing last night! And so far, it’s like a dream come true! After mending fences with @benaffleck earlier this year, I was hoping for a chance to do the same with Jeff – so huge thanks to Leeloo Multiprops for getting us all in the same room. But the biggest thanks ever go to Jeff, for being receptive to the idea at all. This means I’m gonna get to play with my two favorite inaction figures again: Dante & Randal! Two weeks from the debut of @jayandsilentbob Reboot (on @fathomevents screens 10/15 & 10/17, link in my bio), I’m ecstatic to announce our imminent return to Quick Stop! So I assure you: we’re open! #KevinSmith #clerks3 #jaymewes #jayandsilentbob #danteandrandal #quickstop #leeloomultiprops #indiefilm #clerks

A post shared by Kevin Smith (@thatkevinsmith) on

Clerks III is showing life and, more importantly, another friendship from the View Askewniverse has returned. The details of the initial rift between Kevin and Jeff has never really seen the light of day, but that is something between two friends and it’s great to see them reconnect, let alone seeing them return to that garden state of mind.

As of this post, the script is still in the early stages and no production date is in view, but the usual suspects seem to be ready to return to the Quick Stop.

Ghostbusters Documentary will be “Cleanin’ up the Town” in the UK

(Douglas Porter.Staff Writer)

After a preview of the final production cut of Ghostbusters documentary: Cleanin’ up the Town premiered at Ghostbusters Fan Fest, Anthony and Claire Bueno announced on 9/20 via Facebook that they submitted their multi-year project to Kew Media for final distribution. While it was unknown to the UK based filmmaking team at the time how it would be distributed, Kew Media has already announced their plans moving forward on getting the Kickstarter financed project out to its fan.

Kew Media has announced a limited run to UK cinemas this December, along with a Video-on-Demand release in January. The documentary which took 12 years to complete from its inception is chalk full of cast and crew members who tell great stories about the making of Ghostbusters in 1983-1984. This documentary also marks the final interview with Harold Ramis who passed away in 2014.

The team from our sister podcast: The Ecto Pod were able to discuss the documentary with Anthony and Claire after its 15 minute debut at Ghostbusters Fan Fest. We will be releasing that interview as our next “Ecto Extra” in the month of October.
