The beginning of this month marked the return of the Days of the Dead convention to the west coast and the guys from Nowhere jumped into the event head first. The three day event was packed to the rafters with excitement and, over the next few days, Nowhere California will launch our traditional tales from the con. The first stop is detention, a bloody session of detention.

In the past, our adventures to these conventions have revealed some of the best in the world of independent cinema and the 2016 Los Angeles Days of the Dead continued this roll, as Phil and I entered the world of “Getting Schooled…”

“Getting Schooled..” is a comedy/horror throwback to the world of the 1980s and slasher movies. As it was described to us, “The Breakfast Club” meets A LOT of blood. I could go into more details, but the trailer will speak volumes…

“Getting Schooled..” was a part of the screening schedule for the convention and the guys from Nowhere jumped at the opportunity to view this film, so please keep watching this site for our full review of “Getting Schooled..”

In the meantime and most importantly, Nowhere California had the great pleasure to talk with members of the “Getting Schooled..” team.

First, we talked with Courtney Blake Sandifer and director, Chuck Norfolk. In the opening conversation, Courtney reveals the development of the film’s look and other aspects of the production process. Then, Chuck discusses his role as co-writer/director and the evolution of “Getting Schooled..” from script to the screen.

In this second installment, we talk with Morgan Tyler and Mayra Leal. The guys first talk with Morgan Tyler (who plays the high school princess Hillary) after that conversation, Phil and I talk with Mayra Leal (who plays the outcast Julie).
These conversations delve into Morgan and Mayra’s personal developments of their characters and their views of the production process.

After a short return to normal Nowhere California business, it is time to finish up our coverage from the 2016 Long Beach Comic Expo and release our final 3 interviews from this event.

In this installment, the guys from Nowhere talk with the talented Katie Leigh. The career of Katie Leigh can easily be summed up as the voices from your childhood. Leigh’s list of credits can be looked at like a roadmap of iconic children’s programming and you can sample some of this work through her animation demo..

Katie Leigh was a delight to talk with and our excitement shows in this conversation, some excitement shows more than others, but we would like to thank Katie for this opportunity.

GHOSTBUSTERS: Deviations REVIEW

(Joshua Gilmore- Staff Writer)

In the world of comic books, even the unsure readers will understand the concepts of alternate timelines and universes. When a storyline gets looked at from a different angle or a character has a change of morals, these deviations can take a classic story down a completely different route.

During a 5 week event, the creative minds at IDW Publishing have picked 5 chart topping comic book franchises and they are looking at one of their key elements from a skewed view. One of the comics to get this one-shot treatment is the “Ghostbusters” and in this world the Ghostbusters NEVER CROSSED THE STREAMS!

idw-deviations-ghostbusters-aa

As much as this is a monumental moment is the Ghostbuster’s history, this is a monumental road to take for this one-shot issue and the story is built in the classic Ghostbuster’s form. The chemistry of the characters are intact, but without their victorious moment, the guys are trapped in an unknown limbo. The New York, they know and love is replaced by mass hysteria. The hysteria is in the form of an unwanted guest that has stayed far past its welcome.

The story, that was written by Kelly Thompson (better known for her work on Jem and the Holograms), is constructed in a great way that will allow the newest Ghostbusters reader to jump right into the stream and the veteran fans will enjoy the alternate view of one the franchises most iconic moment.

The art for this issues was created by Nelson Daniel (known for his work in the Judge Dredd series) and Daniel’s excellent work continues the visual standard set by the Ghostbusters comic book series.

I would definitely recommend this alternate view at this Ghostbuster’s moment, as it transcends the pages and asks the fan to take a different look at this iconic moment in pop culture history. In the end, I will give “Ghostbusters:Deviations” a 8 out of 10.

GHOSTBUSTERS: Deviations is available March 16th

Gotham Has A New Commissioner..

(Joshua Gilmore- Staff Writer)

J.K. Simmons has hung up his Daily Bugle Press Credentials and picked up the Commissioner’s badge of the Gotham Police Department, as Simmons has signed on to play Commissioner Gorden in the upcoming Justice League films.

As we are a few weeks away from the “Dawn Of Justice”, there is little to no chance of seeing Simmons step into commissioner’s office and Simmons will probably sit out the battle of the world’s finest. This down time will be short lived, as part 1 of the Justice League films will begin production next month and will hit theaters Nov.17,2017.

Now, that we know Simmons’ position in the “Justice League” world, where does this leave Simmons and Gorden in the growing DC universe? Will we see Simmons in the upcoming solo Affleck/Batman movies?

The hangover from the Long Beach Comic Expo is starting to fade, but it’s time for our coverage to get into high gear.

In our first installment of our coverage, we had the pleasure of talking to Tony Todd. This man has been connected to some of the modern classics of horror and independent film. Also, Todd has made an impact on the small screen and can be seen of CW’s FLASH as Zoom.

It was an honor to have a conversation with this man and we would like to thank Tony for taking the time to talk with some guys from Nowhere.

During our conversation, Tony mentioned his current work in the movie “Frankenstein” and you can watch the trailer below. It looks to be a modern take on a horror classic and, from the looks of the trailer, this version will honor the legacy of the original.
