Ghostbusters: The Next Generation…

In an event that could rival the 1909 blast that rocked Tunguska, the Ghostbuster’s universe has been giving an early Christmas gift in the form of the first trailer for the upcoming Ghostbusters movie, this movie has been officially titled “Ghostbusters:AfterLife”..

As most of the Nowhere California listeners know, the guys from Nowhere have their hands in a second podcast known as “The Ecto Pod” and this podcast delves deep into the vast world of the Ghostbusters franchise, so you can only imagine that we have a lot to say and we do.

After 30 years and a controversial reboot, Sony has announced a new Ghostbusters movie set in the original universe scheduled for a summer 2020 release. The news was broken by the trades on January 15th, with an online press release detailing the plans for the new movie. Set to be written and directed by two time academy nominated Jason Reitman, son of original director Ivan Reitman.

The movie is scheduled to be filmed this summer, however the press release did not mention any casting news so it is not determined at this point if any of the main cast will be returning.
Not wanting to let the flame die down, Sony released a 52 second teaser trailer on the morning of January 16th.

The trailer has fans watering at the mouth for more, especially casting news. While the original cast returned for the 2016 reboot, it has still not been determined whether we will see any of the OG’s in this highly anticipated sequel. One cast member has made his presence known on social media, Dan Aykroyd.

  So we know Dan is ready to jump in, but the major hold out with the cast has always been the elusive Bill Murray. There have been attempts in the past to get a GB3 off the ground, but Bill has always denied coming back which never let sequels get off the ground. But with a Reitman at the helm, and the fans rallying around this news it seems the right time for Bill to make his comeback to ethereal plane.

Spiderman: International Man Of Mystery..

The marvelous MARVEL web slinger is crossing the pond and the year continues to heat up for the lucky movie watching world. MARVEL has unleashed previews for Captain Marvel and teased us with the Avengers’ grand finale, now we are treated to the trailer for Peter Parker’s second solo outing and the debut of Mysterio.

Now that the world had witnessed the new trailers for Spiderman:Far From Home (First being the North American trailer and the second being the international preview) There’s levels upon levels of things to dissect, first being the continuation of Aunt May’s knowledge of Peter’s secret and the awkward, but cute flirtation between May and Happy. There are a lot of subtle things to watch for throughout this trailer, but the action quickly rattles you back into the adventure at hand.

 The European vacation is upended by forces that are great, such as Hydro Man and a possible Sandman. Also, there is a mysterious force that some of the most jaded comic book fans can’t help but cheer for and that comes in the form of Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhall. In this trailer, Quentin Beck seems to be showing his heroic side and we can wonder how long that might last.

 Spiderman:Far From Home will be released on July 5th of this year and will the aftermath of End Game still be shaking through the MARVEL Universe, let alone this movie or will Spiderman be returning home to the start of a war?

Going Under The Sea With DC..

Arthur Curry has been the butt of jokes for a very long time and the idea of an actual “Aquaman” movie was the thing of punchlines on seasons of “Entourage.” It’s hard to see any franchise hopes from the Justice League member that talks to fish, but in the right hand, an “Aquaman” movie can possibly win at the difficult game of Hollywood JENGA.

At the recent San Diego Comic Con, the world received its first look at DC Universe’s “Aquaman”..

This is one of those moments where saying, “This is not your father’s Aquaman” would not deserve a swift punch to the face and years of scorn from your friends.

James Wan is at the helm of this film and, from the trailer, things are looking great. The assembled cast and crew have constructed a movie that seems to move past DC’s past issues, such as the “talk bubbles” from the “Justice League” and they have unlocked a world that could only be shown in this modern age of filmmaking.

It could be easy to start naming off the cast, but the names speak for themselves and the trailer raises that volume to eleven. The visuals of this trailer give this creation the possibility of something more than blonde hair and an orange shirt. The views of Atlantis are stunning and gives viewers a chance to be a part of this unique DC world.

Warner Brothers and DC should be looking at this movie with high hopes. The future of DC movies has seemed to become scrambled, it is not a mess, but the focus seems to be misguided slightly. “Aquaman” will hopefully return DC to a track that “Wonder Woman” has started and focus on the league that brought them into the theaters.

Kicking Ass With Glass..

The 2018 edition of the San Diego Comic Con will be coming to a close in a matter of hours, the upcoming slate of pop culture releases and breaking franchise news will have a ripple effect for weeks to come. The multiple super hero universes are never going to be the same and, as the bad guys team up in one world, we are reminded that not all heroes wear capes. They wear pajamas and, coincidentally, so do the villains.

Those are not delusions of grandeur you are feeling, that is a legitimate feeling of splendor and you have the new trailer for GLASS to thank for that pleasure.

GLASS is the follow-up of the 2016 movie SPLIT, a movie some would say that was a surprise hit and the closing of that movie was one of the multiple reasons for that film’s success. A spoiler alert could be in play for the following sentence, but get bent and watch the damn movie. SPLIT closed with writer/director M. Night Shyamalan linking this movie to another movie from his cannon, UNBREAKABLE which I will not drag this out and just say if you haven’t seen UNBREAKABLE.. Walk away from your computer now.

Now, the trailer for GLASS has been unleashed and everybody is ready for some group therapy. David Dunn, Mr. Glass, and The Horde are behind the walls of a mental institution, but their journey to this point is quickly brought into question and we have a doctor that will begin to look for the answers. A doctor that will try to inject some reality into this unreal situation, but as their past will show, this group’s traits reach far past the pages of the comic book world.

     Now that I have your attention and you can rest assure that we are not a click bait site, we have to talk about something that might be a little boring and it will be the most important thing to keep in your mind in the next few days. The subject is net neutrality and there is a vote coming to possibly destroy the idea of a open/fair internet. This topic has no political lines, it is a line between the haves and the have nots.

     Net Neutrality is the practice that internet service providers (or ISP) must treat all data on the internet the same and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, or website. For instance, under these principles, ISPs are unable to intentionally block, slow down or charge money for specific websites and online content.

     Now, with all of that said, there is an important vote coming Dec.14 and the goal of these ISPs is to have the FCC change all these rules, so they can turn around and start to throttle the idea of a fair internet to cash in wherever they see fit. There is so much more to the story and I would highly recommend everyone to dive past the regular headlines.

    After you do more research and learn about the pitfalls of the possible rulings, you need to have your voice heard and let the powers that be know that you stand against these plans. You want a fair and open internet.

    It’s not a huge secret that Nowhere California loves to shine a spotlight on the world of independent creativity. Also, if there is a project that sticks out to our team, we will keep tabs on the minds behind the projects and George Wassil is one of those minds.

    George is the creator of the comic book series “Oh, Hell” and Nowhere California first crossed paths with him at the 5th annual Long Beach Comic and Horror Con in 2013. Since that first conversation, we have been lucky enough to talk with George on five different occasions.

    Now, before you ask about the fourth conversation, here is our most recent conversation with George from the Stan Lee’s 2017 Los Angeles Comic Con.

The Doom Song Rehearsals Begin Now!

 Beware the stars, there is an invasion looming and we have Nickelodeon to blame for this. The nostalgia trend continues to pick up steam at the kid’s cable network and they have announced that “Invader Zim” will be returning in a special television movie.

“As a network that prides itself on a 25-year history of creating groundbreaking, hilarious animation for kids, Invader Zim is one of our great loves. It’s been so exciting to see its popularity grow over the last decade through social media, consumer products, and the Zim comic books,” comments Nick’s senior VP, Content Development and Production, Animation, Chris Viscardi (via VARIETY)

The “Invader Zim” movie has jumped into the current mix of Nickelodeon’s blasts from the pasts, as several other classic NICKtoons are preparing for the television movie treatment.

The details of this production are still developing, but here are a few piece of information that is known. The creator of “Invader Zim”, Jhonen Vasquez, will be returning to lead this new era of Zim. Also, the original voice cast will be returning to give the proper touch to this event.

As details develop, we will pass that information on to you through this site and the Nowhere California Podcast, but for now there is no set air date.
