The guys from nowhere meet a girl from Jersey in this next installment of Nowhere California’s coverage of the 2015 Stan Lee Comikaze, as Phil and Josh talk with actress, Marilyn Ghigliotti.

Ghigliotti entered the pop culture world with her work as Veronica in the cult classic “CLERKS” and continues to build a great career, with such movies as “Alien Armageddon” and the upcoming “Lake Eerie”

“Lake Eerie” is set to be unleashed January 15 2016 by Gravitas Ventures and looks like it will be an intense journey.

A journey that wasn’t intense was our conversation with Marilyn, it was an absolute pleasure and we would like to thank Marilyn for this opportunity.

Why Not #19 – Why Not One Hour Photo?

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

The guys from Nowhere have been celebrating the life and career of the legendary Robin Williams through special episodes of “Why Not?” The “Why Not?” episodes of Nowhere California started out as a way to have a monthly movie discussion and spotlight movies that might have flown under some radars.

In the past installments of “Why Not?” the Nowhere California Team have focused on movies that slightly fell out of the mainstream to movies that a regular viewer might have not given a proper chance. There are many other ways to describe these movie, but the goal of “Why Not?” is to give these films another shot.

In this edition of “Why Not?” the guys from Nowhere discuss the 2002 movie “One Hour Photo” In this film, Robin Williams plays a photo technician/developer Sy and we learn about Sy long running obsession with a particular family…

The Cast Of “The Crow” : THEN (1994) And NOW..

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

Last year marked the 20th anniversary of this movie and for the longest time, this movie was at the top of my all-time favorite films. Over the past few years, Charlie Chaplin’s “The Great Dictator” has begun a battle for the top spot and it is a continuing war, but I will always have a special place in my heart for this dark classic.
This movie still has a dark cloud that continues to hang over it, but the true fans of this movie will never let their passion for this movie die.

So with that love and fondness, let’s take a look at the cast THEN (1994) And NOW..

Eric Draven was played by Brandon Lee. Lee was killed in a tragic accident, during production of this film and “The Crow” was his last role.

THEN

Brandon Passed Away In 1993

Sarah was played by Rochelle Davis. Davis was not credited in another role until 2009.

THEN

NOW

Sergeant Albrecht was played by Ernie Hudson. The last part of the scene in Albrecht apartment was ad-libbed and the “Believe me, nothing is trivial” line was not part of the script.

THEN

NOW

Top Dollar was played by Michael Wincott.

THEN

NOW

Myca was played by Bai Ling.

T-Bird was played by David Patrick Kelly.

Nowhere Invades The West Files And MASSACRE Los Angeles Premiere..

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

I was recently invited to the Los Angeles premieres for two great short films, MASSACRE and The West Files. The event took place at Busby’s East and it turned out to be an amazing night, the films were great and I had the opportunity to talk with a few people behind these productions.

(AUDIO) Nowhere California Presents Our Coverage Of The West Files And MASSACRE LA Premiere

In genre that can be easily crowded with mindless blood spilling, MASSACRE is a twisted and refreshing sight on the screen. Pandie wrote and Erik Boccio constructed a whirlwind of a short film. This short hits every point a full length independent feature can only wish to hit.

The West Files, as a short film, was a funny and inventive watch. The West Files, as a television series, needs to happen. In a short period of time, the story is built and each character is developed enough to make you want more.

We will keep you posted on any new development that occur with these projects and, hopefully, we will have another opportunity to talk with the talents behind these productions.

A Look From Nowhere At “I Smile Back”

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

Type casting is sort of a duel edged situation, for performers it can guarantee work and a long life in Hollywood. Also, type casting can become very stale and most performers can get lost in the everyday shuffle.

In the world of comedy, the traps of type casting can be easy to fall into and for most performers the greatest risk is to not fall into one of these holes. The list of comedic performers that have broken out and taken a dramatic risk have grown over the past few years, with a lot of big screen success and Sarah Silverman will soon add her name to that list.

Sarah Silverman stars in the upcoming drama “I Smile Back” and plays Laney Brooks. Laney is a mother and wife that travels a road of destruction, in which her vices are leading to an end of her “loving” family. As the end looms before her, Laney must take a final chance at redemption.

“I Smile Back”, which is based on the novel by Amy Koppelman and is directed by Adam Salky, is rounded out by an amazing cast. The cast includes Josh Charles (Masters of Sex and Adult Beginners) Thomas Sadoski (The Newsroom and John Wick) and Mia Barron (Newsreaders and The Venture Bros.)

As you can tell by this trailer, this movie is coming out of left field for Silverman and this should not be a surprise. In her career, Sarah has attempt very different roles and genres to the enjoyment of most viewers. Also, she has seem to make it a point to not be trapped in a type casting situation and challenge herself as a performer. In this role of Laney, I will bet good money that she will be making the awards circuit in the upcoming year.

“I Smile Back” will be released on October 23rd.

The Lady Behind The Slime..

As we continue to build this site and look back the history of Nowhere California, it still surprises us the things we have pulled off and the people we have met. The time we talked with the talented Robin Shelby is a great example of both of those things.

Robin Shelby, for those new to our world, was the actress that performed as Slimer in the 1989 classic “Ghostbusters II” and this performance brought our first interaction, through the ECTO POD Podcast..

The Ecto Pod Talks With Robin Shelby..

After this conversation, we wanted another chance to talk with Robin about her fascinating career and what lead her to this world. So, with the idea, the guys from nowhere ventured outside of the Nowhere city limits and met this amazing individual in person.

Here is our conversation…

As most of Robin’s fan know, she is an absolute delight and loves all of her fans. We consider ourselves very lucky to have witnessed this first hand and sincerely thank her for this great opportunity.

Grand Theft Parsons Writer Invades Nowhere…

10447801_846563678701354_3741514063991208921_n

(Joshua Gilmore- Staff Writer)
In the early planning stages of Nowhere California, the idea of conducting interviews was the furthest thought from our minds and at most a pipe dream. As time progressed, we started covering conventions and building connections. One of those connections grew from Josh’s fandom of a particular independent movie and the movie is “Grand Theft Parsons”

“Grand Theft Parsons” was released in 2004 and was based on the life of Gram Parsons or Gram’s afterlife to be exact. During Gram’s rise in the world of music, he made a pact with his roadie/best friend Phil Kaufman (played in the movie by Johnny Knoxville) that had to be fulfilled after one of their deaths. The pact was that the surviving friend would take the body of the deceased out to the desert and set their soul free. After Gram’s passing in 1973, Phil had to follow through with the promise and it wasn’t as easy as you think.

One of the major aspects on Nowhere California was the ability for Josh and Phil to talk about the things that are important to them, independent movies were at the top of the list and “Grand Theft Parsons” was an important part of that category.

An opportunity presented itself and Josh jumped at it. The opportunity was to talk with the writer of “Grand Theft Parsons”, Jeremy Drysdale and here is that conversation..
Nowhere California Presents Our Conversation With Jeremy Drysdale..

Also, if you are an avid Nowhere California listener, Phil and Josh recorded a special edition of “Why Not” to discuss this movie…
Why Not #11-Why Not Grand Theft Parsons?

As we are always prone to thank people a lot. We would like to send a huge thank you to Jeremy for this amazing conversation. It’s rare to meet someone that you respect and enjoy their work, it a whole different story when you get to talk to them. Thank you!

The Podcast Before The Site..

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

This site is still something new to us, but we have been around since 2011. Nowhere California began as a podcast and grew into something we never imagined.

In recent weeks, we have evolved into something more and we want to make sure everyone will continue this journey with us.

One of our biggest changes was our switching of host sites. Unfortunately, we outgrew our previous host site and made the move over to soundcloud…

NOWHERE CALIFORNIA ON SOUND CLOUD

Now, with that move, we had to launch a new iTunes feed and that is the reason behind this post. The entire Nowhere California Team would like to make sure that our listeners can make to move without issue. So here is a graphic to help things along…
