Could a new generation Jedi bring the life back to forgotten video game movie franchise? As quickly as the Millennium Falcon can make the kessel run, the casting rumor of Daisy Ridley stepping into the boots of Lara Croft has spread through all the Hollywood outlets.

This past week, DEADLINE reported that Warner Bro’s and MGM have possible put Daisy into casting consideration for the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot. Now, with everything in Hollywood, casting and production rumors can change in the blink of an eye. Now, with Daisy’s commitments to the Star Wars franchise, could her name be taken out of the mix as quickly as it was brought in or could this be a post Star Wars project for Rey?

This Summer…Who you Gonna call?

(Nicholas Dye/Staff Writer)

Yesterday, the world was witness to some unusual paranormal activity that appeared in the form of a free roaming, full-screen movie trailer. That’s right, the long awaited trailer for Paul Feig’s all-female cast of Ghostbusters hit http://www.ghostbusters.com to mixed reactions. We here at Nowhere California absolutely loved our first glimpse into the new world of the Ghostbusters franchise. Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon (By the way, McKinnon as Jillian Holtzmann? My new crush!), and Leslie Jones round out our new Ghostbusters as well as, who we believe will be their super sexy secretary, Chris Hemsworth. The trailer gives us our first glimpse at the new ghosts and a familiar ugly little spud…green…gross…OKAY It’s Slimer. Since the guys at Nowhere gave this to me to write I will hop on a short soapbox for a moment. This may not be our original guys nor a true sequel to the franchise. It is, however, honoring the original with cameos by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts, the freaking firehouse AND, as I mentioned, Slimer. The hearse they use in this as Ecto-1 is a 1984 Cadillac…you know 1984…like when the first film came out!? So everyone needs to cool their collective jets and just enjoy a new chapter into the Ghostbusters universe! I will be there on July 15th to watch as “A new team will answer the call.”

The hangover from the Long Beach Comic Expo is starting to fade, but it’s time for our coverage to get into high gear.

In our first installment of our coverage, we had the pleasure of talking to Tony Todd. This man has been connected to some of the modern classics of horror and independent film. Also, Todd has made an impact on the small screen and can be seen of CW’s FLASH as Zoom.

It was an honor to have a conversation with this man and we would like to thank Tony for taking the time to talk with some guys from Nowhere.

During our conversation, Tony mentioned his current work in the movie “Frankenstein” and you can watch the trailer below. It looks to be a modern take on a horror classic and, from the looks of the trailer, this version will honor the legacy of the original.

In the past, Nowhere California has had the opportunity to talk with some insanely talented people and this streak has continued with this our conversation with Chantel Riley.

Chantel can be seen currently on Broadway as Nala in “The Lion King”, a role she had the opportunity to play in a production based in Germany.

Also, the world can now see Chantel’s performance as Quincella in the movie “RACE”. “RACE” delves into Jesse Owens’ journey to the 1936 Olympic Games, these games took place in Berlin and we relive Owens history making face off against the handpicked athletes of Adolf Hitler. In the events leading to the Olympics, we learn about Jesse’s life and loves, this is where Quincella enters the picture. Quincella was a well-off admirer of Owens and pursued the athlete like an Olympic medal.

Nowhere Toy Archive: “Weird Al” Action Figures…

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

Nowhere California is diving deep into the abyss of toys and collectibles to bring you the new or the forgotten. In this first installment, we are taking a look at the recent announcement from NECA Toys and their upcoming figures honoring the king of parody music, “Weird Al” Yankovic.

wmnubwqwwu0w8hqyuu7m

NECA Toys released a preview of one of the figures of the collection. This classic Al figure is patterned towards his earlier days, as you can see with his glasses and short afro, but this edition will come with a more modern look and a second head. The second head depicts the present day Al, with long hair and clean shaven face.

There is no set release date of this figure and the other figures that will make up this collection, so for now we can only expect more eras of Al to be released and the loyal Al fans will be waiting in even worse anticipation.

Which era of Al would you like to see in this collection? There are so many to choose from, will we see Al from UHF or a Claymation Al from the Jurassic Park video? Tell us your thoughts.

Second City Helping Comedy’s Future And Honoring A Legend..

The comedic legacy of Harold Ramis continues to live on and Chicago’s Second City will make sure of that, as they have announced the formation of The Harold Ramis Film School. Since Harold has created some of the greatest moments in comedic cinema, there is no one more fitting of this honor and some of the greatest comedic minds of today will have their hand in this school’s inner workings.

One of the important aspects of this establishment will be the new school’s advisory board. This board will consist of Steve Carell, Eugene Levy, Keegan-Michael Key, and Martin Short , as a few of its members.

“Harold is the perfect person to have a school named after him,” Martin Short said in a recent interview. “He taught us all how to act and how to live. He was the ultimate teacher.”

The Harold Ramis Film School will be a certificate program, instead of the traditional degree program and the students will develop a portfolio that will allow them to begin their first steps into the filmmaking world of comedy.

“Harold Ramis was the quintessential Second City writer/performer – intelligent, funny and devoted to the spirit of ensemble,” says Andrew Alexander, CEO and executive producer of The Second City. “His early mentoring of the Second City TV cast set the template for how that show would operate for eight seasons. His unselfish and generous spirit dominated the many wonderful films that he directed and wrote. I am thrilled by this opportunity to instill Harold’s philosophy of successful storytelling in film in the next generation of artists.”
