The Dune Trailer is Here!!!

(Nicholas Dye/Staff Writer). Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures just dropped the trailer for the upcoming DUNE directed by Denis Villeneuve. From the look of the beating “wings” of the ornithopters to the Gom Jabbar held by the reverend mother, this looks to be the truest adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal science fiction masterpiece. I shall prattle on no more. Here is the trailer for Dune slated for a December 18th 2020 release.

FLETCH Lives… Again?

It’s a given, the world of Hollywood will stick to a sure thing and we are looking down the barrel of more reboots and remakes. The question is what property will be that best bet and Miramax has put their chips on the FLETCH line… again.

The studio has announced that the investigative reporter, originally played by Chevy Chase, will return to the big screen (or small, depending the state of movie viewing) with Jon Hamm entering the role of Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher.

hamm

“Fletch’s duration over audiences – whether told on paper or the big screen – entertains all and we could not be more thrilled to see what twenty-first century twist these artists create,” said Miramax CEO Bill Block.

The FLETCH world has been in a holding pattern for several years, with reboots that have gotten lost in pre-production hell. Now, with this development, the fans of this franchise can look forward a new chapter for this character. Along with acting duties, Hamm will step into the role of producer with manager Connie Tavel. Also, Greg Mottola is set to direct this production and television writer, Zev Borow is set to pen the screenplay.

“Producing this film with Jon has been a long-time dream of mine and with Zev and Greg on board to write and direct, I really believe that this will be an exciting and modern reimagining of this beloved character,” said Tavel.

Since this is a developing story, a production start date hasn’t been announced and details can change at random, but key plot points have been released. The film will be set in modern days, so we’ll not have a 80’s nostalgia flashback, and will take its story from the 1976 novel “Confess, Fletch” In which a mysterious series of events lands Fletch in the middle of multiple murders, with one of the cases names him as a prime suspect. During his attempts to prove his innocence, Fletch has to search for his fiancée’s stolen art collection and this collection is her only inheritance from her missing, but presumed dead father.

The pieces are in the right place and Fletch could stand a chance of a franchise resurrection, but are the modern movie goers ready for the return of this comedy icon or has this hero been lost in the forgotten cult film wastelands. As the film breaks away from the pre-production hell, fans can hope it’s time for Irwin’s return to the spotlight.

The Spice Must Flow…

Denis Villeneuve sure knows how to help us nerds chase away the COVID-19 blues! This week, the Bladerunner 2049 director gave us our first glimpse of House Atreides as well as some of the Fremen from the upcoming film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s legendary novel. To say that I love Dune is a vast understatement. The book remains one of my favorite novels of all time and I watch the 1984 David Lynch film, arguably, an unhealthy amount. When this film was announced, I went crazy. When the A-list celebrity cast was announced, I lost my damn mind. With these photos, I can truly get a feel for the direction Villeneuve is taking and I am going fucking bonkers! I’ll shut up now and let you enjoy the pics. Dune is slated to hit theaters on December 18th. With the current global pandemic, check back with Nowhere California for the latest updates. Be safe and Listen Irresponsibly!!!

Top Left: Oscar Issac as Duke Leto Atreides. Top Right: Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck. Center Right: Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho. Bottom: House Atreides

Send In The Creepy F*cking Clowns For The New “IT” Trailer..

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

The track record for clowns in modern society has been a mixed bag of emotions, there is the fun loving and cholesterol jacked Ronald McDonald from everyone’s food coma dreams. Also, in recent years, we have a small group of half-wits across the country that try to freak out little kids. Now, the clown that would make the half-wits run in fear and make them need a change of pants has returned. The trailer for the upcoming big screen remake of “Stephen King’s IT” has arrived.

Stephen King’s adaptations have a pretty strong history, love or hate them the movies have been memorable and “IT” looks like it will be in the same boat with the original TV movie. The Losers’ Club seem to have been collected with the right amount of sympathy and care, this will be a group that you will want to follow.

Pennywise is a whole different story and I mean that in the most positive way, as with any remake, there is a fear of losing a vital part of the original’s heart. In the original 1990 TV movie, Tim Curry brought this literary clown to life and gave Pennywise a level of creepiness that the talented Curry can only reach. In this new vision of a classic, Bill Skarsgård avoids the traps of copying the performance and seems to crank the creepy knob past 11.

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo have taken the Las Vegas journeys from the pages to the silver screen and their return to print is set, with the help of cartoonist Troy Little. Top Shelf Productions, an imprint of IDW Publishing, has announced this adaptation of “Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas” will begin their entrance into the world of graphic novels.

IDW Publishing has made a name for itself in the world of comics since their start in 1999, they have developed huge franchises and they have taken the proper risks to create a brand that can challenge the iconic legends. Now, with their entrance into the graphic novels battle ground, they are releasing a beloved classic into a world that should fit the works of Hunter S. Thompson like a glove.

“I’m so pleased that one of the first collaborative projects to come out of the Top Shelf/ IDW relationship will be Troy Little’s inspired take on a true classic of American literature,” said Top Shelf Editor-In-Chief Chris Staros in a press release. “One of the most unforgettable writers turned loose in one of my favorite cities! We can’t wait to show you what Troy’s done with it.”
