You’re gonna need a bigger budget…

(Nicholas Dye, Staff Writer)

1975, the year that ruined it all. A new director named Steven Spielberg had landed the job of directing the film adaptation of the novel Jaws, the story of a killer shark terrorizing the sleepy vacation town of Amity Island. As history would write it, Jaws packed theaters and cleared out beaches worldwide as the very first summer blockbuster and the film responsible for ruining beach trips FOREVER. With an ominous two-note lead in, Jaws’ theme, brilliantly crafted by John Williams, would become the most recognizable soundtrack ever and be used by millions of older siblings to scare the shit out of their kid brothers/sisters every time they set foot in even a bathtub.

Yet, as iconic as that film is to american cinema, changes were made by Hollywood that altered the original story of Jaws. Some of these changes were subtle and some were quite significant. Granted, the screenplay was adapted and written by Peter Benchley but the execs at Universal ultimately cut a lot of the sub-plots. The finished product is something that is cinematic gold and really didn’t hurt the heart of the story in any way but, in this age of reboots, I would like to propose a remake of the fateful events of Amity Island, one that is much truer to the equally legendary novel. Since the novel is over 40 years old, I hope I don’t need to post a spoiler alert but in this day an age of everyone being upset and angry about something…SPOILER ALERT…

I firmly believe that if a remake of this film is to be made then it needs to be set in 1975. Although the novel was released in ’74, I think it would be a nice homage to the film as well as eliminating any Michael Bay-esque modern day technology bullshit. In the book, Mayor Vaughn of Amity isn’t under pressure by the economy to keep the island open but the mob who has several real estate investments on the island. Now, admittedly, this is minor and has no impact on the overall film and the guilt that overwhelms Vaughn after the attacks happen is compelling, so this could remain a cut from the final product. Martin Brody and Ellen Brody aren’t the picturesque couple they were in the original film. Ellen is a bit younger than Martin and actually comes from an aristocratic society. She also harbors resentment towards Martin for being stuck as the wife of a small town police chief. This actually plays out further into the novel when Ellen meets the dashing Hooper. Now, Richard Dreyfus, who was Hooper in the film, may be a lot of things but I don’t believe dashing would be one of them. Hooper, we learn, is also the ivy-league younger brother of a guy she once dated. Because he comes from the money and society that Ellen misses, Ellen and Hooper have a very intense affair one night that Martin ultimately finds out about. Martin, then does what any sensible husband would, he chokes the living shit out of Hooper but lets him live. Just like the film, Hooper wants to bring his shark cage along and the grizzled captain of the Orca, Quint, puts up a fight…until he is given $100 extra bucks. I believe this should stay in the film just to get this amazing scene again…

The outcome is MUCH different though as the egotistical, wife fucking Hooper is eaten alive as the shark tears into the cage. Vengeance is sweet however it comes. Another key point is that the Orca leaves port and comes back several times and Quint with it. They do not remain out at sea. I think this would do well to illustrate the frustration in trying to track the shark as well as give the shark that sense of toying with our hunters. Captain Quint’s demise is not the grizzly affair that had people in theaters shitting themselves. His demise in the novel is much more in the vein of Ahab from Moby Dick. He makes several attacks on the shark with a harpoon and the shark, much like we have learned that great whites do, leaps from the water and crashes down on the stern of the Orca, mortally wounding the mighty fishing boat. In this instant, Quint plugs the shark with another harpoon and the shark sinks back into the dark waters with Quint in tow due to the harpoon rope becoming entangled around his foot. I would kill to see this played out cinematically because Quint doesn’t go out in a spew of blood and terrified screams but he goes down fighting the demon fish. The conclusion sees the Orca sinking fast and Martin Brody clinging to a flotation device. He begins paddling to the shore only to see the shark coming for him. As he lets out an involuntary cry before his ultimate demise, the attack never comes. He turns to find himself face-to-face with the shark. He stares into it’s black, lifeless eyes as the shark rolls over, finally succumbing to the harpoon wounds and sinking into the sea with Quint still being drug behind. How bad ass is that!!? Quint ultimately wins the fight!! Now I realize that is not as iconic as “Smile you sonovabitch!” as Brody fires his M1 Garand, hits the oxygen tank and blows the shark to pieces, but it does, even to the end, leave Brody feeling helpless against this monster.

Sadly, I doubt we will see a remake anytime soon but I can hope. The only thing I insist stay in the film is Quint’s retelling of the sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis. Robert Shaw, the actor who played Quint, heard this tale from Craig Kingsbury, the real-life inspiration for Quint and the man who played Ben Gardener in the film. Shaw, being an accomplished stage actor, put his own spin on it and it was perfect. Whoever would fill his shoes would have his work cut out for him but this has to be in the film:

The Ideal Terminator Marathon…

(Philip Morgan.Staff Writer)

Hey everybody, Phil here again with another requested blog from Josh. Today, I will be sharing with you how to get the most out of a Terminator Marathon. This isn’t going to be nearly as insane as my Ghostbusters marathon because I am a casual fan of the Terminator franchise. I know the Ghostbusters universe inside and out, but with the Terminator there are a few things that get fuzzy and I am still trying to sift through the haze. The Terminator universe is so rich that, when James Cameron stepped away from the franchise, other film makers and writers took serious liberties with the rules.

Before we can talk about the Terminator franchise, we need to talk briefly about what the Terminator is loosely based on. I am talking about a short story by Harlan Ellison, “Soldier From Tomorrow” published in 1957 and was later turned into an episode of the Outer Limits titled “Soldier”. This short came out in 1964 just 20 years before Terminator. I touch base on this, because when Terminator came out there was a law suit that came up between Ellison, the Production Company Hemdale, and Distributor Orion Pictures that claimed Ellison’s story was plagiarized. They settled out of court for an undisclosed amount, due to enough similarities to the story that The Terminator acknowledges the Outer Limits episode in the ending credits.

Here is a link if you would like to know more about Harlan Ellison’s Soldier Of Tomorrow

Here is a link on the Outer Limits episode.  . Even in this version some liberties were taken that trail a bit from the original story. Nothing major, but I think worth noting.

Now let’s get to the Terminator Franchise. We start of course with the first film “The Terminator”. This is one of the greatest Science Fiction stories of all time. You just can’t go wrong, a killing machine sent from the future to kill the mother of its greatest enemy and a soldier from the future sent back as well to protect her. Even as a footnote that sounds awesome. That is probably why the first film works so well and the Franchise could have just survived with just this one film.

It didn’t take long for a comic of the Terminator to be put out by NOW comics. As I said, writers played around a lot with this series and they were only basing concepts around the mythology of the first film.  They were given a lot of creative freedom on where the stories would go, so the comic played out like an anthology series. Sometimes it would evolve characters from the film, other times it involved random soldiers from the future and what roles they played in the war against the machines.

There are so many comics out there and I can’t possibly tell you where they fall in the universes continuity. There are even stories that involve the universe of Alien and Predator. I would love for James Cameron to direct a movie that had Terminator, Alien, and Predator in the same movie. That is a toy box dream come true there. It is not likely to happen, but that story exists in the world of comics. There are even stories that crossover with Superman and Robocop.

Comics have always been a fun place for Franchises to play together. Here is a list if you would like to know more. List Of Terminator Comic Books

Now back to the movies.

After enjoying Terminator, I like to enjoy “Terminator 2 Judgment Day”. Now, this movie is one of the greatest sequels of all time. This is the kind of sequel that all sequels should aim to be, it takes what made the first film good and perfects it. Arnold Schwarzenegger had become a regular action hero in 1991, so instead of having him return as the antagonist, he returns this time reprogrammed as the protector of a teenage John Conner. Since Arnold was now the good guy, they had to come up with something twice as deadly for him to fight. This film introduces one of the greatest sci fi creations called the T-1000, an advanced prototype terminator. This was an amazing film and, when most people think about the Terminator franchise, I am sure iconic images of this movie pop into their heads.

Now after that wonderful outing I would recommend the “Terminator 2 3D Adventure Across Time” experience at Universal Studios. That’s right I actually include this little marvel in my marathon, it is funny that this attraction is called “Terminator 2 3D Adventure Across Time” and not just “Terminator 3D Adventure Across Time”. That just shows how bad ass Terminator 2 is, it is so awesome that it got a ride. I guess the 3 in 3d could confuse people into thinking that this attraction is supposed to be the 3rd chapter. It does continue the story from number 2, but throws certain rules out the window, like instead of time traveling naked, they just jump through portals to time travel. In the end it is just an attraction and not really a continuation of the Terminator universe. Sadly the Minions ride has taken the place of this attraction, but it originally started in Universal Studios Florida and made its way to Hollywood. I am glad I got to experience it. The story is not cannon, but totally fun. I believe you can catch glimpses of the attraction on Youtube, so I recommend giving it a look.

Next, I like to enjoy “Terminator The Sara Connor Chronicles”. This is a series that picks up from “Terminator 2 Judgment Day”. This series may follow the previous 2 films, but it has its own continuity. John is still a teenager struggling with the burden of being the savior of mankind and he now has a female Terminator to protect him named Cameron. This series only lasted 2 seasons and there was no clear conclusion, since the show ended on a cliffhanger.

Then I like to enjoy the true sequel to “Terminator 2 Judgment Day” and watch “Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines”. Now I personally see nothing wrong with this movie, the same way I enjoy Ghostbusters 2 and a lot of critics didn’t enjoy that movie much. I think the same can be said about Terminator 3, it doesn’t really add anything new to the franchise. It is pretty much more of the same, Arnold returns as protector of John Connor and this time he is fighting a Terminator called the TX. A Deadly Prototype Female Terminator or Terminatrix . She has the same abilities as the T-1000, with the added arsenal of deadly weapons built into her like a Plasma Cannon and Flame Thrower. She is made of liquid metal and she has a Cybernetic Skeleton. Not sure how much of an improvement she is over the T-1000, but hey this film was still fun. I know there are many fans and critics alike that really hate this movie, but I found it very entertaining. I think I accepted this movie, because I knew regardless of what ever hype was going for the third Terminator, it was not going to top “Terminator 2 Judgment Day”.

Now we move to the one film of the franchise that I personally can’t stand, “Terminator Salvation”. One of the main reasons that I am not terribly fond of this movie is the absence of Arnold Schwarzenegger and it just doesn’t feel like a Terminator film without him. The CGI T 101 that attacks John Connor in this film does not count as an appearance, because it doesn’t take long for John to blow the skin off the robot and that ends Arnold’s CG likeness cameo. Arnold’s T-101 appearance is the best part of the movie, as far as I am concerned. Another thing that makes this less of a Terminator movie is that it takes away the future war will be fought in the past elements, by eliminating time travel and directly focusing on the actual “future” war. I understand that Terminator 3 left the series with little choice by saying that Judgment Day was inevitable, with the bombs being launched and John Connor narrating that the goal was not to stop Judgment Day, but to survive it. As much as I enjoyed Terminator 3, I thought that was one of the weakest story elements and it totally took away from the hopeful, but unclear road ahead that Terminator 2 flawlessly delivered. I understand the battle against the machines in the future is the whole point of the franchise, but I like the idea of the possibility of them being able to stop this robot apocalypse. Without that element, I just don’t care what happens to the characters. We have seen them do everything they can to stop Judgment Day and ultimately fail, but now we are supposed to care how John is going to end this war even though he was unable to stop the war from happening in the first place. I do give the movie credit for trying to do something new, but I don’t think it was the right move. The franchise probably should have been left alone after Terminator 2, but with a property so popular how can any studio not want to cash in.

Now we end the marathon with “Terminator Genysys”. I feel obligated to let you guys know that there are major SPOILERS AHEAD. I figure I should let you guys know since the movie is new and many of you guys probably have not had the chance to see it. This movie starts in the year 2029, before Kyle Reese goes back in time to protect Sara in 1984, Reese steps into the time displacement device and witnesses John being attacked by someone who turns out is the physical embodiment of Skynet. Now that Reese witnesses this before he is transported to 1984, a flood of memories of his childhood without a war enter his mind. Which is very strange since Reese grew up after Judgment Day. Reese arrives in 1984 and we all discover that everything we knew about the Terminator franchise has changed. Yup Terminator went full Star Trek 2009 on us and now we are in an alternate time line. Now, Sara Connor is not the simple waitress from the original movie and is now a trained soldier in the war for the future. She is well aware of who Reese is and why he is there. Also, she already has a protector from the future and her protector is none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold’s Character is called “Pops”, it is quite apparent that he is an aging Terminator that was sent to 1970’s when Sara was a child to protect her from a T-1000 that was already pursuing her. Sara’s parents were killed by the T-1000 and Pops protects her so he can teach her all that she knows in 1984. Who sent Arnold to protect Sara as a child? We are never told, those files were conveniently deleted from Arnold’s memory and whoever sent Arnold back doesn’t want Skynet to know. So as I stated this is a pretty big mystery that is not answered in this movie.  The audience is left to just wonder. Now that the time line has been altered Judgment Day is now set to go off in the year 2016, instead of 1997 like it was set in the earlier films. So Reese and Sara use their own jerry rigged time displacement device to travel to 2016. Pops can’t travel with them since he got his flesh melted off fighting the T-1000 leaving his metal arm exposed. This movie is going back to its time travel roots, which I like and pushing again that nothing mechanical can go through the time device without being torn apart. Sara and Reese travel to 2016, they are arrested once they appear. You can’t just appear out of nowhere and be completely naked in a busy intersection without having to answer some questions.  They get rescued by John Connor, who has somehow made his way to 2016 and Pops shows up shooting John. This shooting reveals, well it was revealed in the trailer too, John is the new dangerous Terminator that Arnold has to fight in this movie.

Now John’s abilities are just like the T-1000. He can mimic anyone that he comes into contact with and he can repair himself when shot. Instead of liquid metal he appears to be composed of nano bots. This means he can disassemble himself and appear real quickly behind an opponent. Also, the Nano bots can separate themselves from John and attack individually. This was a pretty neat concept, because after watching 4 Terminator movies and the TV Series I was getting tired of John being the savior of humanity. I think it was shoved down the audience’s throat more than it was John’s. The fact that John Connor becomes an instrument for Skynet is just awesome and that was a fresh direction to go. John is now in this time to assure Skynet’s existence in the future and he has set up shop in a huge building where some advanced technology, including Liquid Metal, is already well into development. Now, we are back on track to the real goal in the movie. It is not to protect Sara so she can raise the world’s savior. The goal instead is to stop Judgment Day from ever happening. Now that brings us to the climax of the film. Skynet is an App by the name of Genysis, where the subtitle of the film comes from. Genysis is supposed to go online in a matter of minutes, connecting all hand held devices together through satellites and therefore Skynet will have control over everything that is a machine. Judgment day is here and it is up to Reese, Sara and Pops to stop it. They set explosives all over the building to bring everything down, while Pops keeps John Connor busy. Eventually the fight puts both John and Pops in the time displacement device where both are real torn up and have metal exposed. Pops holds John in place and tells Reese to activate the time machine, which will tear both of them apart. So both Terminators are destroyed in the magnetic field of the time machine, Pop’s upper torso falls in a vat of liquid metal before the entire building explodes.

Sara is emotional destroyed by the loss of her cybernetic guardian, but the sadness is short lived and a liquid metal blade breaches the door, as in walks Pops all in one piece. Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger has survived the fight and has now got a liquid metal upgrade. I had no idea that was the way Liquid Metal worked, but okay. After that we are treated to a post credit sequence where it is revealed that Skynet has survived the explosion. This was a pretty good reintroduction to the franchise. I can already hear Josh saying, “Oh come on. Really?”  (Note From Josh-Not Really, reading your thoughts makes me want to see the movie more)   The thing is I liked that Arnold’s Character is completely developed at this point, since we are dealing with an older Terminator and it took the fatherly love that the Terminator from Terminator 2 felt of John and built on this terminator’s love for Sara. The movie is not without serious flaws and I will say that it is nowhere near as good as “Terminator 2 Judgment Day”. There are just too many unanswered questions that, as an audience member, you just feel robbed. You sit there for 2 hours and find out that all you are watching is build up for the next movie. That is what this is, since Paramount had every intention of this movie being the first in a new trilogy. The movie should have been able to stand on its own, but as of right now the story feels incomplete. Unfortunately the movie was beat out by the Magic Mike’s sequel in the box office. That seriously hurt the possibility of another movie since paramount did not see the return they were expecting to get. I was pretty surprised myself, was Magic Mike really that good? Fortunately “Terminator Genysis” received some pretty impressive returns overseas, so we might see those next 2 films. I hope they are able to get those next 2 films done and bring this Terminator story to a satisfactory end.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it. Till Next Time.

A Look From Nowhere At “I Smile Back”

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

Type casting is sort of a duel edged situation, for performers it can guarantee work and a long life in Hollywood. Also, type casting can become very stale and most performers can get lost in the everyday shuffle.

In the world of comedy, the traps of type casting can be easy to fall into and for most performers the greatest risk is to not fall into one of these holes. The list of comedic performers that have broken out and taken a dramatic risk have grown over the past few years, with a lot of big screen success and Sarah Silverman will soon add her name to that list.

Sarah Silverman stars in the upcoming drama “I Smile Back” and plays Laney Brooks. Laney is a mother and wife that travels a road of destruction, in which her vices are leading to an end of her “loving” family. As the end looms before her, Laney must take a final chance at redemption.

“I Smile Back”, which is based on the novel by Amy Koppelman and is directed by Adam Salky, is rounded out by an amazing cast. The cast includes Josh Charles (Masters of Sex and Adult Beginners) Thomas Sadoski (The Newsroom and John Wick) and Mia Barron (Newsreaders and The Venture Bros.)

As you can tell by this trailer, this movie is coming out of left field for Silverman and this should not be a surprise. In her career, Sarah has attempt very different roles and genres to the enjoyment of most viewers. Also, she has seem to make it a point to not be trapped in a type casting situation and challenge herself as a performer. In this role of Laney, I will bet good money that she will be making the awards circuit in the upcoming year.

“I Smile Back” will be released on October 23rd.

The Bloody Art Of Jessica Cameron..

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

In the world of horror, there is no mid road and you shouldn’t have a mild reaction to whatever you are viewing. There is good and there is bad, but there is a strong reaction and the same can be said about the world of independent horror.

Luckily for the guys from Nowhere, we met up with a talented horror artist at the 2014 Days of the Dead Convention. Her name is Jessica Cameron and the guys were able to talk with her after a screening of her directorial debut “Truth or Dare”

“Truth or Dare” was an intense watch and the people attending this screening can agree. There was even a viewer that walked out, but we were given fair warning by the director and we were given complimentary vomit bags. As the movie was one experience, talking with Jessica and Jonathan Higgins (Jonathan co-wrote Truth or Dare with Jessica) was one of our favorite memories of Nowhere California.

Nowhere California Presents Our Conversation With Jessica Cameron and Jonathan Higgins..

During our conversation, Jessica revealed some details on her upcoming projects and here is the trailer for one of the projects “MANIA” As you can see, from this teaser trailer, we are in store for the best kind of mind fuck and this new force of horror will not be ignored.

The Hulk Will Take No Sides In The Civil War..

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

The battle lines have been drawn and we know some of the soldiers that will take part in the upcoming Captain America: CIVIL WAR. As we wait for the official trailer release, fans have learned where the big green beast will stand in battle and that will be nowhere.

Mark Ruffalo, who is currently promoting his upcoming movie “Spotlight”, revealed that Hulk was very close to joining the Civil War battle and MARVEL had other ideas. Here is the comments that Ruffalo made to the Italian website Bad Taste …

“The reason is too great to be revealed in this movie (Civil War),” Ruffalo tells Badtaste.it. “I was in the script but then they removed my character. They don’t want to reveal where is he and why. I don’t even know if Hulk will be back soon.”

In the past, The Incredible Hulk has been an incredibly big pain to get translated to the silver screen and could this be another sign of MARVEL’s apathy towards getting the character the respect it deserves on the big screen. MARVEL has kept their plans under wraps, until the time is right and the events of Ultron shows that there should be more on the horizon for Hulk. As long as MARVEL has a winning hand in store for Banner, we can only hope Hulk will finally get his proper time in the spotlight.

A Look From Nowhere At Fire City:End Of Days

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

The end is near and the demons of the world are coming out of the shadows. Fire City: End Of Days follows a demonic force of nature, known as Vine, as he journeys to make the ultimate choice and this choice will bring life altering conflicts. Vine must choose between the survival of his fellow creatures or protect the life of a human.

This film was inspired by the short film Fire City: King Of Miseries, Brian Lubocki and Michael Hayes tackled the task of writing the script. The director of the original short film, Tom Woodruff Jr, will make his feature film directorial debut with Fire City:End of Days.

Woodruff, known for his Academy Award winning creature effects, will lead a talented cast into this production. Tobias Jelinek (Hocus Pocus), Danielle Chuchran (SAGA : Curse of the Shadow), Glee’s Harry Shum Jr, and Kristin Minter (TVs E.R) are set to star.

After a journey through kickstarter and the festival circuits, this dark adventure will be unleash on DVD/On Demand October 6th. Stay locked into this site for reviews and interviews in the upcoming weeks.

D23 Expo brings a “Galaxy far far Away” much much closer

(Nicholas Dye, Staff Writer)

Disney’s D23 Expo took place in Anaheim California over this last weekend and if we learned ANYTHING from the event it is this: It is a damn good time to be a Star Wars fan! All things Star Wars took a front and center spotlight at the expo this year and yet, aside from what we’ve learned from the most recent Entertainment Weekly, there weren’t really any new details to the story of the highly anticipated Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. What we did learn is that Disneyland, as well as Disney World in Orlando Florida, will be adding a 14 acre expansion to their parks that will be completely Star Wars themed.

Walt Disney Company CEO, Bob Iger took the stage to address the fans and revealed; “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever. These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet.” It was also announced that the expansion will feature an attraction that allows guests to pilot Han Solo’s ship The Millennium Falcon on a “secret mission” and will also feature “an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guest in the middle of a climactic battle.” Conceptual artwork was featured as well which you can check out below.

The Ideal Ghostbusters Marathon..

(Philip Morgan.Staff Writer)
Hello Everyone My name is Philip Morgan and my friend Josh told me to right a blog for our page.  For those that don’t know, I am a diehard Ghostbusters fan.  Josh and I had talked on and off about the franchise for as long as he’s known me and he wanted me to share with all of you how I enjoy what I like to call The Ideal Ghostbusters marathon.  With the Ghostbusters reboot around the corner now sounds like just a good a time as any to tell you guys how I like to enjoy everything the Ghostbusters Franchise has offered so far that I could manage to get a hold of.  I shared this info with Josh and he said, “Dude you so totally need to write that down and share it, because that is not a marathon, it’s a Gauntlet 🙂  Now were not just talking watching the 2 movies and boom you’re done.  Don’t get me wrong I can do that anytime, because those movies are so much fun.  I can watch those anytime any day.  If either one happens to be on TV, I will stop what I am doing and just watch it.  Now for The Ideal Ghostbusters Marathon I do this once a year.  This is a good way to do it because you don’t want to get burned out or bored with a franchise and you don’t want to drive your loved ones crazy with over saturation so you can just ease your way into this marathon and take your time.  It gives me something to enjoy all year round because it takes some time to do.  Could take a whole year depending how much time one has on their hands.

The Ideal Ghostbusters movie starts simple enough with the first Ghostbusters film.  This includes watching the film in all its glory, plus watching the Deleted Scenes.  If you know the movie as well as I do it is not hard to know where to insert the Deleted Scenes while you are breezing through the film.  Now I start watching the film all the way to the point where the Ghostbusters capture Slimer.

Then I will stop the movie and play The Ghostbusters video games for the Atari 2600, NES, and The Sega Master System.

Then I will resume the film and watch the montage scene up to the point where Winston Zeddemore gets hired.

I stop the film again and watch The Real Ghostbusters Promo pilot for the cartoon because the Ghostbusters are depicted in there Tan uniforms and Winston is present leading my head cannon mind to the conclusion that this scene takes place soon after he was hired.

After that I watch the Ghostbusters music video.

I resume the film up to where Peter and Dana talk about her case and just before the scene changes I stop the film again.

Are we having fun yet?  At this point I play The Ghostbusters video game for the Sega Genesis.

After that I finally finish watching the first movie.
Then I start watching The Real Ghostbusters cartoon starting with the episode Citizen Ghost this episode tells the story of what happened after the first film and how the Ghostbusters wind up with new uniforms.

After that I enjoy watching season 1 of The Real Ghostbusters which is 13 episodes.

After Season 1 I enjoy watching The Real Ghostbusters Toy Commercials

After that I read all The Real Ghostbusters comic books and Coloring Books and other related activity books.  Even if some of the activity books don’t have story and dialogue the art work is really fun to look at.  I will also watch The Real Ghostbusters Arcade Gameplay and Play The Real Ghostbusters for The Game boy.

After that I continue watching season 2 of The Real Ghostbusters which is 65 episodes.  I like to watch the episode Ragnarok and Roll last because I feel that episode is a great way to end the Season.

Then I watch Season 3 of The Real Ghostbusters 13 episodes.  I like to end this Season with The Boogieman is Back.  It’s a strong end to this season.
By Season 4 the show changed its title to Slimer and The Real Ghostbusters and it would be an hour show containing a Slimer episode a Real Ghostbusters episode and 2 more Slimer episodes. I watch the Slimer cartoons first then watch The Real Ghostbusters Segments.

Out of the 33 Slimer episodes the one I can’t miss is Don’t Tease the Sleaze because the Ghostbusters actually bust a ghost called the Sleaze in that episode and he makes a later appearance in The Real Ghostbusters.

Then I finish season 4 with The Real Ghostbusters segments 8 episodes.  Ending with the episode Short Stuff which is a fun episode and introduces an antagonist named the Ghostmaster that will appear in the next season

Then it is time for Season 5 of The Real Ghostbusters 21 episodes.  I like to end this season with The Halloween Door.  This is the shows third Halloween themed episode and this episode originally aired in prime time and is an awesome episode to end the season.  Mostly because it feels like the original film.  With ghosts taking over all of New York and the Containment Unit Blows up it’s just epic.  It would have been perfect if this was the last episode in the series.

Now we watch Season 6 of The Real Ghostbusters which has been reworked a bit with new Theme Song and Score.  This Season has 16 episodes and even though this season contains more toned down episodes than the previous seasons, this season has one of the best episodes in the series.  The Episode is called Janine You’ve Changed which addresses all the changes that Janine went through as the series went on and gave a reason she was changing.  A Creature that pretends to be her Fairy God Mother.

Now we bring The Real Ghostbusters to an end with Season 7 only 4 episodes long.  My Favorite is Not Now Slimer where the Ghostbusters face an entity that is made up of all the anger and hate of every ghost they have ever captured.

After 140 Episodes of The Real Ghostbusters and 33 episodes of Slimer it is finally time for Ghostbusters 2.  This includes watching the deleted scenes that are now available on the Blue Ray.  Same method as with the First Ghostbusters movie.

I watch it all the way till the Ghostbusters Capture the Scolari Brothers.  Watch the Montage.  Then it is time for the Ghostbusters 2 video games on the Atari 2600, Both NES Games and Game boy Game

Then it is reading every coloring and activity book based on Ghostbusters 2.   Which there are quite a few.

Then it’s back to watching the rest of Ghostbusters 2.
Ghostbusters 2 marks the end of an era.

Then a new era begins with the animated series Extreme Ghostbusters.  This Show lasted 40 episodes and introduces a team of younger Ghostbusters Mentored by Egon Spengler and Janine Melnitz.

The way I tackle this series is not very difficult.  This series didn’t last long enough to have a whole lot of merchandise around it.  This show sadly fell a bit under the radar due to its time slot.

I start by watching the first 2 episodes Darkness at Noon Parts 1 and 2.

These two episodes do a pretty great job reintroducing us to the world of the Ghostbusters and introducing us to the new team that we will be following through the rest of the series.  Also we get to see this new crop use the original equipment only to find it has little effect on the powerful entity they are fighting.  So Egon has to upgrade the equipment and give us this new equipment that doesn’t look nearly as cool as the original stuff, but the last time we saw the Ghostbusters it was 1989, this show takes place in 1997 so changes needed to be made.

After watching the first 2 episodes I watch the Extreme Ghostbusters Toy Commercials and TV spots to get myself pumped for the new series.

After That I play The Extreme Ghostbusters Video Game on the Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance.
After that I watch the 38 remaining episodes of the series and end the series as it aired with the 2 part series finale titled back in the Saddle Part 1 and 2. These were the perfect episodes to end the series on since it featured the return of Peter Venkman, Ray Stanz, and Winston Zeddemore and had The Real Ghostbusters team up with the Extreme Ghosbusters

For the longest time this is where the marathon ended, but in 2004 there was something new that came to the Ghostbusters Franchise.  That would be the 4 issue Ghostbusters Legion Comic Book and a SDCC comic short entitled the Zeddemore Factor from 88 MPH Comics.  Just in time for its 20th anniversary.

So I read the Zeddemore Factor and The Ghostbusters Legion Comic Books.

Then I read the Ghostbusters The Return Novel by Sholly Fisch.  To most fans this story is not cannon, but it is a fun read.

After That I read the Ghostbusters Manga entitled Ghost Busted.
Then I read all the Articles and video game guide about The Ghostbusters Video Game for the 360, PS3,Wii and DS.  Just in time for the 25th anniversary.

Then I play Ghostbusters The Video Game for the Nintendo DS

Then I will Play Ghostbusters The Video Game for the Wii.

These Games do a wonderful job for getting me pumped for the next stage on the marathon.  Now I read the Ghostbusters Comics from IDW.  Starting with Ghostbusters The Other Side which is 4 issues long.

Then I read Ghostbusters Displaced Aggression.  Once again 4 issues long.

There are 4 one shot issues that follow a holiday theme titled Haunted Holidays.

Then I read a short paperback story titled Ghostbusters Time Scare.

Then I Read the Comic Book event Titled Infestation.  It is a huge IDW Crossover event that ties other properties together including Ghostbusters.
Then I read all the Ghostbusters Ongoing from IDW 36 wonderful issues.  That ran from September 2011 all the way up to the 30th anniversary of the franchise.

Then it is time to read some Ghostbusters Crossover issues by IDW.  The first is a four issue event called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ghostbusters.  Completing the 30th anniversary of both Franchises

Now as I write this blog only two of these issues are out now, so anyone reading has a chance to per-order these upcoming books and show IDW that we want this Comic to continue.  As a matter of fact Volume 3 has been greenlit.  I then read this Ghostbusters cross over event titled Ghostbusters Get Real.  This is a special 4 issue event where The IDW Ghostbusters meet The Real Ghostbusters from the popular animated series

Now more can be added to this list because I am happy to say that Ghostbusters is still a living breathing entity.  Especially with the New Remake on the Horizon.  This is how I enjoy everything that is involved with the original Ghostbusters universe.  I doubt the Remake will have a place in this marathon, but as of right now we will have to wait and see.

Now I will share with you how I end the Ideal Ghostbusters Marathon with a bang.  After I go through all the actions above I end the marathon by playing Ghostbusters The Video Game for the XBOX 360.  This is the Realistic Looking version to the Ghostbusters games that were played earlier, but to me this game is an incredible high note to end the marathon on and to me is the official Ghostbusters 3.

Well that’s it for what I feel is the Ideal Ghostbusters Marathon.  As my Ghostbusters Collection Grows this marathon could very well change, but as of the time I am writing this article this is how I do it.  I Hope you enjoyed this long winded blog.  If you did thank you very much for reading it, and if you hated this, please blame Josh.  It was his idea.

Grand Theft Parsons Writer Invades Nowhere…

(Joshua Gilmore- Staff Writer)
In the early planning stages of Nowhere California, the idea of conducting interviews was the furthest thought from our minds and at most a pipe dream. As time progressed, we started covering conventions and building connections. One of those connections grew from Josh’s fandom of a particular independent movie and the movie is “Grand Theft Parsons”

“Grand Theft Parsons” was released in 2004 and was based on the life of Gram Parsons or Gram’s afterlife to be exact. During Gram’s rise in the world of music, he made a pact with his roadie/best friend Phil Kaufman (played in the movie by Johnny Knoxville) that had to be fulfilled after one of their deaths. The pact was that the surviving friend would take the body of the deceased out to the desert and set their soul free. After Gram’s passing in 1973, Phil had to follow through with the promise and it wasn’t as easy as you think.

One of the major aspects on Nowhere California was the ability for Josh and Phil to talk about the things that are important to them, independent movies were at the top of the list and “Grand Theft Parsons” was an important part of that category.

An opportunity presented itself and Josh jumped at it. The opportunity was to talk with the writer of “Grand Theft Parsons”, Jeremy Drysdale and here is that conversation..
Nowhere California Presents Our Conversation With Jeremy Drysdale..

Also, if you are an avid Nowhere California listener, Phil and Josh recorded a special edition of “Why Not” to discuss this movie…
Why Not #11-Why Not Grand Theft Parsons?

As we are always prone to thank people a lot. We would like to send a huge thank you to Jeremy for this amazing conversation. It’s rare to meet someone that you respect and enjoy their work, it a whole different story when you get to talk to them. Thank you!
