Even Will Byers and the gang read Nowhere California posts.
(Nicholas Dye/Staff Writer)
We were hit with the teaser a few weeks back and now we finally have the first full trailer for the final season of Netflix’s hit series, Stranger Things. This has become MY favorite series and all I can say is, I’m not ready. Things look bleak for Hawkins and the gang but they’ve all come out okay before right? RIGHT? Volume One drops November 26, 2025, Volume 2 ON Christmas Day, and the finale drops New Year’s Eve. Ugh…I’ll say this and leave you with the trailer…using Queen’s “Who Wants to Live Forever” is just downright diabolical.
This is a brand new segment that my editor and fearless leader, Joshua Gilmore, gave me the greenlight to launch. It is a segment that allows us to get things off our chest about the pop culture community that may irk us from time to time. The Void is our sacred place. The ether to which we send out our ideas and voices. To that end, welcome to Violating the Void.
As all Star Wars fans know, but few are willing to admit, the biggest threat to the Star Wars universe, isn’t Kathleen Kennedy or the Disney corporation, it’s the toxicity of its fans. While the toxicity of Star Wars fandom is far too vast to cover in one simple post (and believe me, we will make the attempt at a later date), it’s just one example in a larger world of unmitigated hatred towards casting choices, writers, directors, storylines, and so on. I remember all the hatred aimed at Heath Ledger when he was cast as the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. Hell, you could even go back as far as 1989 and read articles where critics ripped Michael Keaton apart for being cast as Batman. But for this inaugural post, I am going after those who have gone after James Gunn, and all those who are involved with or who support the upcoming Superman movie.
The backlash began when James Gunn announced that he would be directing and writing an upcoming Superman film that was loosely based on All-Star Superman, initially titled Superman Legacy. With that announcement, he dropped the logo that would be used. Toxic nerd went ape-shit. Jump ahead several months and we start seeing set photos. Bring on the toxic nerds who began to rip apart the choices in actors and costume designs. Fans initially cheered the casting of Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner of the Green Lantern Corps and just as quickly ripped him to shreds when they saw what he looked like on film. I don’t get it! These toxic nerds screamed for comic accuracy, and when it’s delivered, they lose their minds and not in a positive way.
Superman’s New LogoOur new Superman!
Jump ahead to just a couple of weeks ago when we get our first teaser trailer for the film itself. Here comes the toxic nerds with their pitchforks and torches and systematically rip the movie apart based off a handful of seconds. Cries for the restoration of Henry Cavill in the titular role rang out. Corenswet looks terrible in that costume. Corenswet looks terrible as Clark Kent. Krypto (who stole the trailer by the way) looks terrible. Guy’s haircut and outfit look goofy. Snyder should’ve had another chance. Gunn is a piece of shit! All of this hatred and venom spewed towards a film, its actors, and it’s director from the very people claiming to be fans of a character based in hope and kindness. I was absolutely disgusted.
Nathan Fillion rocking Guy’s signature bowl cutSuperman and some reporter named Clark KentThe bestest boy in the whole universe!
I think what sickened me the most came a day or two after the release of the teaser. David Ayers, the director of Suicide Squad, came out in full support of James Gunn and his Superman film…and was promptly met with hatred and death threats. Yep, you read that right, death threats. Ayers responded with an official post stating that he was taking a step away from social media.
Sad and absolutely disgusting Sickening and shameful.
My love for Superman is well documented throughout the history of our podcast and website. I cannot wait to see James Gunn’s vision brought to life. I believe the choices in casting are right on par with the original 1978 film as well is the more recent Superman & Lois TV series which was also perfectly cast. I guess the point is this, you don’t have to like a film. You can be disappointed in how it looks or who is playing your favorite characters. You absolutely have the right to voice your opinion but how dare you send death threats, and bully and belittle those who are involved in and support the film. Oh, and if any of this garners me a death threat…bring it. In the meantime…here’s the poster and trailer for the upcoming Superman directed by James Gunn.
As 2019 comes to a close and the mourning continues for the ones we lost in Avengers: ENDGAME, one question continued to linger and one of those answers came in the form of the first trailer for MARVEL Studios: Black Widow.
The announcement of Natasha Romanoff’s solo movie excited the MARVEL universe, then ENDGAME left the movie watching public wondering about this movie and which direction we would see this character take. Luckily, the studio didn’t travel the same road as 2005’s Elektra and we are traveling back to the world post Captain America: Civil War.
The trailer drives us quickly into Natasha’s return to the world that built her and her attempts to disappear from the radar, but a life of a Red Room spy isn’t that easy and we see her reconnect with some “family”, one of them being a nostalgic Red Gaurdian (played by “Stranger Things” David Harbour).
Black Widow clearly shows the spy thriller vibe that The Winter Soldier gave us in the early phases of the Infinity Saga, but in a completely different world and it’s the world of a character that deserved a solo adventure.
In the comic book work, the term is commonly known as retcon and the movie going public, we are treated to the repeated trend of reboots. Now, these world cross paths again and the world will receive another retelling of the Dark Phoenix saga, as the trailer for next year’s “X-Men:Dark Phoenix” has been released.
Now, for anyone new to this world, the first time this story arch hit the big screen was in the 2006 movie “X-Men:The Last Stand” In “The Last Stand” the Dark Phoenix was a part of a larger story that revolved around the possible mutant cure, but some of the more hardcore X-Men followers knew this was a type of story that could hold its own in a full feature film.
After watching the trailer, it is easy to see that this story line stands front and center in all of its glory. This movie continues the evolution of the current X-Men era with a harsher edge, as loyalties are in question and, in true blockbuster movie form, humanity is threatened.
As with recent high profiled releases, this film had its original release date changed and reshoots were ordered by the studio. The question could be asked about if this will be an issue with the public view and I will not fall into that debate. This film will probably close the X-Men book for 20th Century Fox, before these mutants fall into the Disney fold and we can only hope this last stand will be one to remember.
X-Men:Dark Phoenix Will Rise Into Theaters Feb.14,2019
The 2018 edition of the San Diego Comic Con will be coming to a close in a matter of hours, the upcoming slate of pop culture releases and breaking franchise news will have a ripple effect for weeks to come. The multiple super hero universes are never going to be the same and, as the bad guys team up in one world, we are reminded that not all heroes wear capes. They wear pajamas and, coincidentally, so do the villains.
Those are not delusions of grandeur you are feeling, that is a legitimate feeling of splendor and you have the new trailer for GLASS to thank for that pleasure.
GLASS is the follow-up of the 2016 movie SPLIT, a movie some would say that was a surprise hit and the closing of that movie was one of the multiple reasons for that film’s success. A spoiler alert could be in play for the following sentence, but get bent and watch the damn movie. SPLIT closed with writer/director M. Night Shyamalan linking this movie to another movie from his cannon, UNBREAKABLE which I will not drag this out and just say if you haven’t seen UNBREAKABLE.. Walk away from your computer now.
Now, the trailer for GLASS has been unleashed and everybody is ready for some group therapy. David Dunn, Mr. Glass, and The Horde are behind the walls of a mental institution, but their journey to this point is quickly brought into question and we have a doctor that will begin to look for the answers. A doctor that will try to inject some reality into this unreal situation, but as their past will show, this group’s traits reach far past the pages of the comic book world.

Beware the stars, there is an invasion looming and we have Nickelodeon to blame for this. The nostalgia trend continues to pick up steam at the kid’s cable network and they have announced that “Invader Zim” will be returning in a special television movie.
“As a network that prides itself on a 25-year history of creating groundbreaking, hilarious animation for kids, Invader Zim is one of our great loves. It’s been so exciting to see its popularity grow over the last decade through social media, consumer products, and the Zim comic books,” comments Nick’s senior VP, Content Development and Production, Animation, Chris Viscardi (via VARIETY)
The “Invader Zim” movie has jumped into the current mix of Nickelodeon’s blasts from the pasts, as several other classic NICKtoons are preparing for the television movie treatment.
The details of this production are still developing, but here are a few piece of information that is known. The creator of “Invader Zim”, Jhonen Vasquez, will be returning to lead this new era of Zim. Also, the original voice cast will be returning to give the proper touch to this event.
As details develop, we will pass that information on to you through this site and the Nowhere California Podcast, but for now there is no set air date.
The track record for clowns in modern society has been a mixed bag of emotions, there is the fun loving and cholesterol jacked Ronald McDonald from everyone’s food coma dreams. Also, in recent years, we have a small group of half-wits across the country that try to freak out little kids. Now, the clown that would make the half-wits run in fear and make them need a change of pants has returned. The trailer for the upcoming big screen remake of “Stephen King’s IT” has arrived.
Stephen King’s adaptations have a pretty strong history, love or hate them the movies have been memorable and “IT” looks like it will be in the same boat with the original TV movie. The Losers’ Club seem to have been collected with the right amount of sympathy and care, this will be a group that you will want to follow.
Pennywise is a whole different story and I mean that in the most positive way, as with any remake, there is a fear of losing a vital part of the original’s heart. In the original 1990 TV movie, Tim Curry brought this literary clown to life and gave Pennywise a level of creepiness that the talented Curry can only reach. In this new vision of a classic, Bill Skarsgård avoids the traps of copying the performance and seems to crank the creepy knob past 11.
The world has been waiting for more of the Guardians, in October we were delivered a teaser shot of MARVEL’s space warriors and we wanted a longer drink. Today, the team from “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2” helped relieve any lingering Thanksgiving hangovers and gave the masses a larger dose of Groot.
I think I could stay away from the death button, but I could not avoid the reply button on this trailer. MARVEL seems to have a knack to build a smaller franchise into a monstrous movie event, can you think of your love for Iron Man before the first movie? Anyways, the MARVEL machine has made the right moves when it comes to the guardians’ world and this next volume has the makings to become another box office force to be reckoned with.
In case you need the reminder, Vol.2 of the Guardians is unleashed in theaters May 5,2017!
The guys here at Nowhere California have launched a new campaign that, at the very least, will get us some awesome shirts made, and at best, we might just earn some money that we can put towards our convention expenses and equipment costs.
We have designed an exclusive “HACK PACK” t-shirt and the short goal is to sell 14 shirts which will get them to print. If we can reach a goal of 50 shirts, then we will actually make some money to put towards expanding our horizons at Nowhere California.
The campaign can be found at http://www.booster.com/nowhereca and the shirt runs a total of $19.99 with shipping included. They are 100% cotton high quality t-shirts that you can show off at conventions or comic shops. BUT WAIT!! THERE’S MORE!! The first 14 people who purchase shirts will receive ALL of our interviews and content from the upcoming Stan Lee’s Comikaze before the general public does.
We here at Nowhere California don’t usually like to pander but…OKAY OKAY we have never been above pandering to get listeners and now we hope that same shameless groveling will get you to join the HACK PACK and sport our mildly suggestive t-shirt!! Excelsior!!!!
