Flashbacks can have their ups and downs. The memories of a lost and drunken weekend in Las Vegas can bring on a negative aftermath, but a flashback from a past convention has a better chance of a more positive outcome and will be less dangerous.

At the 2017 Long Beach Comic Expo, the Nowhere California team crossed paths with a flashback from conventions past and talked with Jason Beckwith. Jason is the creative mind behind multiple independent comic books, such as “Taking Eden” and “The Tool”. Also, Jason is a fixture in the convention circuit and can be usually found in “Artist’s Alley” portion of the convention floor, this is where the guys from Nowhere first crossed paths with Jason at the 2016 Long Beach Comic Expo.

One year later, we had the pleasure to talk with Jason about the current state of his comics and the world of the convention floor..

Inside The Artist’s Mind..

In the past our convention coverage, our focus would stay on the art of the comic book pages and the creative minds that put pen to page. In this installment of our adventures at the 2017 Long Beach Comic Expo, we are leaving the pages and moving to the wall, so we can talk with artist Michael Matsumoto.

Michael is an illustrator and a conceptual artist that delves deep into pop culture for inspiration. During his continuing elevation in the art world, Michael has developed a following and has picked up freelance work in the form of commissioned pieces. Also, during this time, he has found a place in the convention circuit and this is where we crossed paths.

Prepare for The Doom Song to echo in your ears and other supernatural oddities to invade your senses, as Nowhere California continues our coverage from the 2017 Long Beach Comic Expo and venture deeper into the world of Artist Alley.

In this installment, the guys from Nowhere talk with Aaron Alexovich. Aaron has built an impressive career through his work in multiple animation and comic book projects, such as AVATAR:The Last Airbender and Invader Zim. Another project that is close to Aaron is the comic book “Serenity Rose”, this book was the brainchild of Aaron’s and is currently in its third volume.

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

There is a conflict that the fake news networks are too afraid to report on and this battle is something that blurs any political lines. This fight is as old as time and it is the war of MAN vs. ROCK, where some fear to tread two men continue to spread the word and Nowhere California was lucky enough to talk with these men for a second time.

At the 2017 Long Beach Comic Expo, the Nowhere California Hack Pack crossed paths with Kevin Bieber and Victor De Troy to discuss the world of MAN vs. Rock, since their last meeting. The conversation runs the range of topics from their new monthly column to MAN vs. ROCK hitting the shelves of your favorite comic book store and anything else that might escape the minds of everyone involved in this interview.

Spider-Man Avenged: Homecoming Trailer Released

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

The silver screen translations of Spider-Man have been many and the reactions have been a mixed bag since the first incarnation hit the screen. The ups and downs have been many, with the downs hitting the basement hard. Now, Spider-Man is back with MARVEL and it is time for a proper homecoming.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-JnD5Fs8KE&t=12s

You just watched the North American and International trailer for “Spider-Man:Homecoming” In those short moments, as with Spidey’s appearance in “Captain America: CIVIL WAR”, you care about this character more then you could ever in the Sam Raimi trilogy.

It’s quick to notice that the iconic web slinger is in the proper hands of the house that truly built his legacy and he is back in the universe that he belongs in. The casting of Peter was done with perfect precision, Tom Holland plays Peter with the heart of a kid that could overcome this insane situation and you would actually believe that he is a high schooler.

The entire cast looks like they are ready to give this iconic web slinger his proper moment in the spotlight and Michael Keaton stepping into the evil wings of The Vulture is going to add another stellar moment to Keaton’s career.

There is so much more that can be said about this trailer and we’ll have all of that coming in the upcoming episodes of our podcast. “Spider-Man:Homecoming” looks to be a moment of truth in labeling and it’s great to say that Spidey is truly home.

Independence Day Weekend 2017 will bring more then fireworks to the sky. Look for Spider-Man to hit theaters July 7,2017.

I Am GROOT! (Translation: NEW GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL.2 TRAILER!)

gotg_vol_2_updated_logo-750x380

(Joshua Gilmore- Staff Writer)

The world has been waiting for more of the Guardians, in October we were delivered a teaser shot of MARVEL’s space warriors and we wanted a longer drink. Today, the team from “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2” helped relieve any lingering Thanksgiving hangovers and gave the masses a larger dose of Groot.

I think I could stay away from the death button, but I could not avoid the reply button on this trailer. MARVEL seems to have a knack to build a smaller franchise into a monstrous movie event, can you think of your love for Iron Man before the first movie? Anyways, the MARVEL machine has made the right moves when it comes to the guardians’ world and this next volume has the makings to become another box office force to be reckoned with.

In case you need the reminder, Vol.2 of the Guardians is unleashed in theaters May 5,2017!

Tim Miller Departs From DEADPOOL 2..

deadpool-movie-review-image-5-768x384

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

As in most Hollywood successes, a speed bump is bound to creep up and everyone’s favorite merc with the mouth has ran head first into a hard bump. Tim Miller, the director of the original blockbuster DEADPOOL, has left the production of DEADPOOL 2 over creative differences.

After the news broke, the rumors started to flood the internet and the truth could be stranger than fiction, but a rift between Miller and Ryan Reynolds seems to lead the charge. The studio has been quick to keep the news in a positive light, as they have already announced their next project with Miller. Fox has released information that Miller will begin work on the adaptation of Daniel Suarez’s science fiction novel, Influx.

In Hollywood creative differences happen as often as rehab stints, but they can hopefully end the same way. I am a massive fan of DEADPOOL and the extended world the movie unleashed, so any static could bring upon something amazing and very little property damage.

Now, due to this issue, the release date for DEADPOOL 2 is up in the air.

Last Call for Logan

logan-wolverine-and-x-23

(Nicholas Dye/Staff Writer) I believe in perfect moments. Snippets of events that tie together to paint a masterpiece. For me, it’s the events that led to me meeting my wife. From the smell in the air to the way a stoplight changes. The song on the radio or the recollection of a dumb joke that helped break the ice. They are magical and remind us that, sometimes, the universe lines up just right. That is absolutely prevalent in the first trailer for Logan, the final Wolverine story with Hugh Jackman. See, I believe there was a reason that Dougray Scott was tied to Mission Impossible 2 and could’t take the role of Wolverine so it passed to an unknown Jackman. I believe that Trent Reznor sat down in 1995 and wrote “Hurt” specifically for Johnny Cash without ever knowing it until he heard The Man in Black sing it. Little moments that make a huge masterpiece. It paints a picture of a future where Logan is broken and old. A future where he is haunted by ghosts and regrets. A future where he wants to be anywhere but in his own skin. No mutants. Nothing and no one to fight or fight for. Like life itself, suddenly Hope appears. A Hope that will bring a new future for mutants. A Hope that is certainly worth fighting for and dying for. You may be looking at these sentences with confusion. Why the capital ‘H’? To that, I simply leave you with this trailer…and a wink.

Guardians the Galaxy Vol. 2!!

800x400-guardians-of-the-galaxy-2“I am Groot!!!” That’s how excited I am for this teaser trailer! Let’s get something straight right away. I am a comic fanboy and I love everything Marvel is doing with their films. That being said, there was a huge expectation placed on each and every film that came before Guardians of the Galaxy. I believe the phenomenal success of the first film is completely due to notion that almost NOBODY had read a Guardians comic prior to the film. I will pause here for all of the Cheetos Puff and Mountain Dew Baja Blast fueled outrage aimed at me by those who actually did read a Guardians comic…All out of your system fanboys and girls? Good now pipe down!! I remember when Marvel had announced it’s phases and people look confused about Guardians. Jump to that weekend opening and sweet baby Jesus!! The first film was amazing and it had all to do with the vision of James Gunn as well as the tremendous cast he compiled. I mean come on!! Glenn Close!? Back to present day and I stand here with wet ring around my crotch because I have peed myself with pure joy. This is just a teaser trailer and it doesn’t give us much except the returning major players, the Blue Suede playing in the background, some badass slow walking, and a pretty funny moment between Drax and Peter Quill. Close it out with some Rocket and Baby Groot and you’ve got this guy hooked. Join me in theaters on May 5th, 2017 and you can throw Milk Duds at me while I geek out over the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2!
