The Comic Con party rages in San Diego and DC has brought a legendary Amazonian princess to the event, as new trailer and poster for the upcoming movie “Wonder Woman” was released onto the world.

After our first exposure to Diana Prince in “Dawn Of Justice”, most comic book fans were starting to feel that the stars might have finally aligned and this trailer proves it. The Wonder Woman film has been in development and pre-production hell for years, but the problem could have been a simple missing piece to the puzzle and that piece seems to be Gal Gadot.

Gadot entered the DC universe as somewhat of an unknown and quickly made an impact, as shown through her stellar reviews in the lukewarm “Batman v Superman” critical reactions. This trailer has shown that “Wonder Woman” belongs in the major leagues of super hero blockbusters.

NowhereCalifornia.com Reaches Its First Year..

(Joshua Gilmore- Staff Writer)

It started one year ago today, this site was launched and took the concept of Nowhere California to a whole new level.

Nowhere California started in 2011 and it was just another conversation between two friends, but these conversation started taking place in front of a microphone and unleashed on the internet. It was as simple as that, but as Nowhere California evolved, the team grew and new accomplishments were reach.

The episodes started to grow and the team ventured out of the Nowhere city limits, as they dove into the world of conventions and conducting interviews. It was with each accomplishment, the Nowhere California family stuck to their ideals of what they wanted to produce and not to become just another podcast.

It was that mindset that grew into this website and, as we mark our first year on the net, we want to simply say THANK YOU.

Thank you for following the journey of Nowhere California.

Thank you for listening to the original podcast and all of the other podcast that have sprung from this little idea.

Thank you for checking out this site

And thank you for continuing this adventure with us.

GHOSTBUSTERS: Deviations REVIEW

(Joshua Gilmore- Staff Writer)

In the world of comic books, even the unsure readers will understand the concepts of alternate timelines and universes. When a storyline gets looked at from a different angle or a character has a change of morals, these deviations can take a classic story down a completely different route.

During a 5 week event, the creative minds at IDW Publishing have picked 5 chart topping comic book franchises and they are looking at one of their key elements from a skewed view. One of the comics to get this one-shot treatment is the “Ghostbusters” and in this world the Ghostbusters NEVER CROSSED THE STREAMS!

idw-deviations-ghostbusters-aa

As much as this is a monumental moment is the Ghostbuster’s history, this is a monumental road to take for this one-shot issue and the story is built in the classic Ghostbuster’s form. The chemistry of the characters are intact, but without their victorious moment, the guys are trapped in an unknown limbo. The New York, they know and love is replaced by mass hysteria. The hysteria is in the form of an unwanted guest that has stayed far past its welcome.

The story, that was written by Kelly Thompson (better known for her work on Jem and the Holograms), is constructed in a great way that will allow the newest Ghostbusters reader to jump right into the stream and the veteran fans will enjoy the alternate view of one the franchises most iconic moment.

The art for this issues was created by Nelson Daniel (known for his work in the Judge Dredd series) and Daniel’s excellent work continues the visual standard set by the Ghostbusters comic book series.

I would definitely recommend this alternate view at this Ghostbuster’s moment, as it transcends the pages and asks the fan to take a different look at this iconic moment in pop culture history. In the end, I will give “Ghostbusters:Deviations” a 8 out of 10.

GHOSTBUSTERS: Deviations is available March 16th

It’s Time To Return To The Pages Of Bat Country..

(Joshua Gilmore-Staff Writer)

Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo have taken the Las Vegas journeys from the pages to the silver screen and their return to print is set, with the help of cartoonist Troy Little. Top Shelf Productions, an imprint of IDW Publishing, has announced this adaptation of “Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas” will begin their entrance into the world of graphic novels.

IDW Publishing has made a name for itself in the world of comics since their start in 1999, they have developed huge franchises and they have taken the proper risks to create a brand that can challenge the iconic legends. Now, with their entrance into the graphic novels battle ground, they are releasing a beloved classic into a world that should fit the works of Hunter S. Thompson like a glove.

“I’m so pleased that one of the first collaborative projects to come out of the Top Shelf/ IDW relationship will be Troy Little’s inspired take on a true classic of American literature,” said Top Shelf Editor-In-Chief Chris Staros in a press release. “One of the most unforgettable writers turned loose in one of my favorite cities! We can’t wait to show you what Troy’s done with it.”
If you have not read this classical work of Hunter S. Thompson, buy the ticket and take the ride. The original novel and 1998 Terry Gilliam film are readily available online. The Troy Little’s graphic novel adaptation is set to be released this month. For more information on the release go to  Top Shelf Productions Official Site

The Half Shelled Heroes Enter Gotham…

(Joshua Gilmore Staff Writer)

We still have a long wait until the dark knight rises on the big screen and faces off with the last son of krypton, but this November the Caped Crusader will cross paths with the heroes in a half shell. As announced during the recent San Diego Comic Con, IDW publishing and DC Comics will publish a crossover of Technodrome proportions.
In a six part miniseries, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the arch rival Shredder will enter Gotham City, after being forced out of their own dimension by the evil Krang. As they battle to return home, the turtles and shredder will cross paths with Batman.
When this news broke, the hardcore and fair weathered comic fan understood the magnitude of this event. Each franchise has historic legacy behind their characters and they are not strangers to reinvention or crossovers.
“Batman is the world’s most popular Super Hero. He continues to be reimagined and this new crossover showcases his ongoing appeal as a global pop icon for the ages,” said DC Comics Editor-in-Chief, Bob Harras.

As Batman is not a stranger to reinvention, the dark knight knows his way around a cross over or two. The world of Batman comics have had a revolving door similar to the guest stars list from the 1966 Batman television series. The storied history of Batman crossovers range from his shocking interaction with the MARVEL universe to the world of Tarazan and many other characters in between.

In their over 30 year history, the turtles have had their fair share of epic events and universe crossing. In one of their most recent crossovers, the turtles entered the universe of the Ghostbusters (another highly popular IDW title) and their universe jumping can be traced back to their first interactions with Usagi Yojimbo in the pages of 1987’s “Turtle Soup”
As the comic book world waits for these issues to hit the market, we know the story will be written by James Tynion IV and artist Freddie E. Williams II will handle the art for this series. Also, the co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kevin Eastman and a yet-to-be name artist will create the variant covers for the crossover event.
